Twin Cities. City and Transportation Planner. Bike fast, pet cats.
Hi Minneapolis friends, nerd night is tonight! And it's every fourth tuesday, and there are openings for maybe August, but definitely September and definitely October. I highly recommend going to a nerd night if you are interested in presenting at a future one, it is so much fun and not scary!
Slowing down and noticing pretty things these days. Like tiles from a 1890s home. Viroqua, Wisconsin.
While I take a few months worth of classes, enjoy Cali cat meeting our new shiny furniture/absurdly tall art piece
How magical, that just an hour bike ride outside the cities, I can see sandhill cranes! There were three pairs on my ride, and these two were the closest to be able to photograph with just a phone zoom.
I know the bus can be scary, Bruce, but we are happy to teach anyone! We'll help anyone who wants to try Metro Transit buses and trains.
Last night's surprise FAFO adventure: changing over from winter tires for my "bad weather bike". It has a belt drive and internal geared hub so there was a lot of frustration and asking for assistance from someone with the same bike. But I did it! Plus checking 2 other bikes and filling tires.
Didn't expect to find some hot transportation planner merch in New Orleans on this trip, but here ya go.
Absolute Queen behavior from the Zamboni Rider today at the Minnesota Frost game. No ICE No War No Kings No Fear.
If your night takes you to the other side of the river, you can enjoy Bonus Hole at Memory Lanes too!
I gotta say, as much as I loved my little scooter here in Cozumel, I'm excited to walk for the next few days. And I miss my bikes back home. The cycling culture is a mixed bag here, there's the super athletic cyclists, and the business cargo bikes. But not much for commuters or tourists. Yet!
This season's hottest fashions, designed to keep your neighbors safe. Eyes on the streets, if you're able. But there are hundreds of skills we can use. $$ can be donated, documents can be translated, spreadsheets entered, info shared, goods delivered.
Sometimes the anxiety bites at me bad and the only thing that can stave it off is exercise. So I went for a walk. And we kept walking. And walked some more. Dark. Crisp air. Silent pavement. We just walk. The lights twinkle. The wind whispers. 5 miles later, the brain noise ceases. For now.
This week in Car Free life: mid century modern end table from FB Marketplace. Pretty solid wood construction, but still wanted to detach the legs and wrap in a blanket. $20, 20 minutes each way, and now I have a lovely little table for my living room. Easy peasy.
Oh hey Minneapolis pals, can you keep an eye out for my tandem bike? It was swiped from my Lyndale garage, and it's on the middle of repairs so I'm sure it'll be ditched soon. Missing one back pedal, weird back seat post, significant rust. But this bike means a lot to us and we'd like it back.
Update: my mom made one for Leo (my brother's dog). As you can tell, the papacy is exhausting
Habemus Papam: we have a new Pope. Cali cat is thrilled. For the 1.4 Catholics in the world (and even for us non-practicing former CCD kids), today is a huge occasion. And even for non-Catholics, the Pope serves as a world leader and holds a lot of influence.
#30daysofbiking Although I have the rental car to get to my last 2 weeks of work, this is my main vehicle. Quick grocery run: two panniers (they clip onto the cart!) and a backpack. Easy peasy. Even $5 egg carton made it home safe.
Moving an entire apartment via bicycles! @ianrbuck.bsky.social is moving across town, so we got three ebikes and a few trailers and got to work. 2 trips later and Ian's place has desks, a bed, table, bookshelf and a couch!
Feels like -36° but it's always a good day for ice cream and side-by-side reading!
And the perfume is a free sample of Gucci Flora (which I will never actually afford but samples are fun!)
The nails: obviously a couple weeks grown out, but they're North Star inspired! ✨
And mine too! Maybe that's why she showed up to my house, she saw another dilute baby and decided it was safe to hang out
Lyndale, Kingfield, Uptown pals, anyone recognize this cat? Dilute calico, very treat and food motivated, tolerates being picked up, very loud meow. She's warm inside my house but I can't keep her in the bathroom for more than the weekend.
We hit a new level of relationship cuteness. Matching winter bikes! Welcome to the pack, Presidio. *For reference, Ian's bike is an XL and mine is XS.
