Nice!! I switched to raised beds this year after fighting clay and too much rain. BIG improvement! This was 10 days ago; they are much taller and more jungle-like now.

Thanks. I thought it looked kinda sandy. Lucky you. I'm in total snot-clay here in NE Ohio zone 6. I got tired of fighting the clay along with too much rain and went to deep raised beds this year. So far, I think I'll have a decent garden this year for a change! Garden on!

🌱Garden 2026: carrots in the small raised bed, peas went in today, and garlic that I planted last fall is coming along. Plants started from seed still in the greenhouse. They will have to stay there for almost another month.

🌱Thanks! We started putting in shelving today! The tomatoes and peppers I started should be ready to move in around mid April or so.

🌱I did that for years--in and out, until I got one of those little portable greenhouses. Put a heater in at night. Now I have a new big permanent greenhouse almost finished (outside at least--still need shelving inside and finish painting in and out). Pics of the old greenhouse and the new one.

🌱Looking good! This is what my neighbor is building on my property (with the windows they replaced from their house); his wife and I will share the greenhouse. It's getting close to being finished (outside, anyway). I need to finish painting (will do the door tomorrow). Then on to shelving inside.

🌱 The 2026 garden so far--in the spare room. Peppers (bell and hot varieties) and several varieties of tomatoes. They should be big enough to move into the new greenhouse (which is not quite finished yet; it still needs trim, paint, and shelving) in another month or so.

That's weird. I've used starter trays for decades, and have had good results. But one year when I moved them into small pots with Miracle Grow potting soil, they all damped off and I had to start over. I think that MG potting soil just kept them too wet. These are some peppers I started 8 days ago.

🌱 Some of the recent harvests from the garden. Peppers have been coming in regularly, tomatoes are coming in a few at a time, due to a super late re-start (too much spring rain). Corn is not the variety it was supposed to be (Peaches & Cream), so will be a surprise (soon).

🌱 Got all the plants in the garden 2 weeks ago. This morning I finally got what I hope will be successful weed deterrent in--black weed barrier covered with straw. Hope it works. Main garden has tomatoes, peppers, squashes, sweet corn, and lima beans; raised bed has carrots, onions, and lettuce.

🌱🍅🌶️🌱 Finally got the tomatoes and peppers out of the greenhouse and into the garden. I have a couple more peppers and the squashes to put in tomorrow. The corn and lima beans will have to wait until later in the week after the rain. The peas along the fenceline are doing well.

🌱 The lima beans are starting to come up! I start them indoors because they can be hard (and slow) to get going. They are a pole limas, and they really love to climb. A lot.

🌱🍅🌶️ 🌱 Seeds started 2/27/25. Not such babies any more! Waiting for some DRY days to get everything in the ground. Had to rearrange and remove some shelves, as the tomatoes are getting too tall for the greenhouse. Serrranos are pushing it, too. 6a, NE Ohio.

I'm envious. I have a low budget amazon version. I have to take it down and put it back up each year. But the shelves are handy for the seedlings in the house before I put the greenhouse up.

It's all well and good while they are still in starter trays or small pots. When they need to be potted up, then space beomes an issue. I'm hoping these can last another 2 weeks before I need to pot up.

🌱 I like to give them a boost with Jack's Tomato Feed; it works for tomatoes, peppers, squashes, etc. This pic was a few days ago, just shy of 3 weeks from seed. They are all growing well.

I've used an old school $12 shop light for starting seeds for decades. Once they come out of the starter trays, then I use grow lights until it's warm enough to put them in the pop up greenhouse. Finally, late May, they can all go into the ground.
