Oh no, how do I pick? Here's a piece of vein opal from Reynolds Mountain, Idaho. It's sun-baked but one corner broke to show clear layers. So maybe more agate than opal?

A chalky-looking white rock with a clear center that has very faint white horizontal layers. It's about the size of two of the fingertips it's held in.

I finally picked up a couple short-story anthologies by favorite authors and…this is funny. (Left is Kristen Britain & the story is from 2002; Ann Leckie's is from 2024) They are…very different, to put it mildly!

Bread lamé: a razor blade stuck on a metal post, so that it's curved a bit. The handle on this one looks like a baguette. It's for making the slashes on top of a loaf, if you're fancy.

An ulu, a traditional knife of various Alaskan Native groups. It's got a curved, semi-circular blade with a grip mounted above it so you can make long, sweeping cuts in two directions. Very like a pastry cutter in shape but meant for meat.

Noticed milk starting to go sour, so thought I'd scald it & then make yoghurt. Instead it made a big curd. So, and @sjgochenour.bsky.social I blame you, I made my first tiny batch of mozzarella at 9:00 pm:
