Think southern Africa might just be far enough away.
Every year a friend brings a bag of windblown oranges from his Midlands backyard orchard. Trees left to fend for themselves all year round. Blemishes, no two the same size, absolutely dripping with juice, and fabulously delicious. A treat.
Jissus. Forrest and Jenny would have been in so much poop nowadays!
During the 2015 outbreak of Xenophobia in Durban, a Xhosa employee born in Mthatha, married to a Zulu man, who lived in KwaMashu for 30 plus years, was forced to flee her home because she was a "foreigner" in KZN, i.e. not Zulu. Xenophobia has no boundaries. People stirring it up are evil.
From the tone of today's reporting, you'd think the Reform party had won the most council seats on the UK.
13 CEO's, 146 Board members and Jo'burg is an absolute shit show. Plus an Exucutive Mayor, and the full council. Layer upon layer of incompetence and extraction from the ratepayer funded fiscus. Should be riots in the streets. #SundayTimes
Just in case you thought North Korea's Dear Leader dream was theirs alone, here's the eThekwini ANC's best shot at it (well 50% of it, the other R11 millions worth is at the MM stadium). OR Tambo in all his splendid pomp - and not a tourist to be seen visiting this expensive attraction.
Completely appropriate for Don to put on his highwayman's mask as he continues to ride roughshod through the global order.
Not sure if this is wise of SARU. For a start we'll be fielding a really weak team when Trump doesn't let in any players of colour. And then all the Afrikaans okes in the team split post game and claim asylum. We'll see them playing for the USA in Australia in 2027. No man, not smart.
I underestimated Durban tonight. More like this... Diwali full bore.
Don't think the @SundayTimessa.bsky.social banner (and article headline) does justice to the powerhouse professional that attorney Emma Sadleir is. If it was a male attorney I doubt they'd cast him as "dad" throughout. She just took on and beat Meta. Not many have. Kudos to Emma Sadleir
Nice to see so many of our legislators, and aspirant legislators, happily ignoring the Information regulator's requirement to submit their PAIA reports by midnight tonight.
Good news brought to us by @ferialhaffajee.bsky.social in the @dailymaverick.co.za newsletter. Really good to see - belies the assumption that nothing is being done about the State Capture crimes in South Africa. Strength to IDAC and the NPA's arms.
Glad to see the best of the best going head to head in the Europa League final.
Business does not resist transformation. Business resists inefficiency. The ANC government and SADTU have baked inefficiency into the majority of young South Africans with a 30% education system. Fixing this will be fixing a big part of the problem. www.dailymaverick.co.za/article/2025...
History is going to show that these three clowns did more long-term damage to the US Economy and US consumers than anyone or anything except the Great Depression.
After reading the first and last lines of this news report, I'm not convinced the reporter applied their mind. www.citizen.co.za/north-glen-n...
From my wise American domiciled cousin: "The temperature this morning is almost as low as my expectations for the next four years. Almost."
New Years Eve in Kenton is still one of the best for youngsters. Thousands of them enjoying a perfect evening on the beach with friends, bonfires, and fireworks. There will be lots of sore heads and bleary eyes today!
Locals giving Sydney and the other big city show-offs a proper run for their money. Happy New Year from the banks of the Bushmans in the Eastern Cape!
Small holiday towns have a different vibe. This is the Kenton Seagull Regatta. A charity fundraiser - 237 British Seagull powered boats and 2,000 spectator tickets. Dale Cunningham and his crew doing something special for the local community. Superb day out in the Eastern Cape.
Still a great South African band. Prime Circle at The Backyard, Kenton.
