Addendum: appended reservations are often extremely technocratic, but Hadash-Ta'al got some bangers in: "the law seeks to regulate not only the taking of life, but also the taking of humanity that preceded it, and therefore cannot stand within the framework of a democratic legal system."
The rest of the law is about holding a prisoner on death row & keeping the identity of executioners, as well as other details that might threaten nat. sec., secret. Notably, no family visits are allowed. I don't have time to translate these, but here are some screenshots (no alt txt here, sorry).
Changes to civilian criminal law (within the green line). Crucial here is the clause "with the aim of negating the existence of the state" as part of a terror attack (that's the "subsection (a)(10) circumstances") - distinguishes b/t Jewish attacks on Palestinians and the reverse.
Next: changing the law in the West Bank. A few things here: the Knesset is technically not allowed to legislate in the WB - this is (further) blurring of the law of occupation.
First: the purpose of the law. Note in particular the instrumentalization of the death penalty. One of the reasons this law was advanced, though it's implicit in the text here, is to prevent future hostage deals. It's not only about individual retribution.

As with many other situations in I/P, I think the answer is yes and no 🫠 Netanyahu has always viewed Iran's threat as existential, but also after 7/10 there's more public will to act on *any* threat. But I was referring to the US's reasoning here - the June 2025 letter refers to the barrages.
