The band played last night's dance at the fabulous Spanish Ballroom at Glen Echo Park (MD). Here we're on stage to do sound check before the crowd arrived. It was quite warm but huge fun, especially after we announced that the Knicks won and then played "New York, New York." 😊🎷
Pip Williams' "Dictionary of Lost Words": historical fiction abt creation of Oxford English Dictionary (OED). Most accounts incl. only men so she interwove the women also involved. "Discovery of Witches" fans will enjoy mentions of Oxford places, e.g., Bodleian. Well-written + fascinating! #Booksky

"Matchmaker's Gift" -- Wonderful substantial characters, + the dual timeline was the perfect way to tell the story, set in NY's Lower East Side. Besides bks+news articles, her info sources included the Tenement Museum collection + a comic strip that ran in Yiddish newspapers. DON'T MISS THIS BOOK.
A remarkable debut novel, and the riveting tale of how to reach beyond the clinic door + support the health of the WHOLE community by working with schools, churches, housing...--> miraculous. Blueprint for helping everyone step by step. I could not put *either* of them down! @panagis.bsky.social
I have "9 Tales of Henghis Hapthorn," but finally treated myself to the 3 novels about Hapthorn. The cases of Matthew Hughes's brilliant "discriminator" (detective) in this fascinating scifi universe are great fun to read about!
