My inspiration for Kovu & Kiara having quadruplets in my HC came from these official pieces of concept art. However it isn't confirmed if those cubs were indeed meant to be Kovu & Kiara's, for there's also the possibility that they might just be some random cubs of the pride.

Pencil scribbles of Kovu smiling as he's surrounded by playful & affectionate cubs, with an happy Kiara standing next to his side. Simba is sitting in the distance, contentedly watching this endearing display.

Same as previous image, except with visible changes such as Kiara's head drawn in a different angle, as well as the addition of three lionesses behind Simba. There's a sticky note on the bottom that says "O.K."

Show-accurate depiction of the Mane 6 being all stitched together into a single pony named "Patches".

On the left you see them, with visible stitches that holds its body patterns in place with a lack of light in their eyes, after they had just smashed a small mirror on the floor upon looking at their own reflection.

On the right, you see them with a much more glowing appareance. Though their wondrous makeover, especially in terms of their mane & tail, is slight but still remarkable, it shows that they are thriving, having come to accept themselves as their own pony.

In the middle is a doodle of Princess Celestia as a mad scientist, yelling out: "SHE'S ALIVE!"

Characterized by his bicolor & asymetrical nose, he's a rambunctious little cub of an happy-go-lucky nature, who uses his carnivorous little trap more to constantly yap & spew out questions (with very few answers that don't fly right past him), rather than to work on his roar.

Being the firstborn, not to mention being named after great-grandpa Vader, Mufasa II is heir to the throne, which makes teaching him lessons very difficult. That is not only due to the aforementioned attention deficit, but also his habit of taking things literally.

Boastful cub that loves to flaunt his authority due to his royal status, muscular stature, as well as his upcoming responsibilities as the eventual leader of The Lion Guard. He sees himself as the most heroic one, taking things more seriously than his siblings do, especially unlike his brother Mufasa II, whom he has a concerning disdain for. Concerning for the parents & subjects especially, given the historical context.

Little does Shaka know, the Roar of the Elders would choose someone else to bestow their gift.

She's basically just Cera from The Land Before Time, having a tomboyish demeanor with reckless tendencies of constantly trying to prove her bravery. She clashes with Shaka alot, yet they still get along quite well for the most part, not to mention wanting to be part of his Lion Guard as the Bravest.

And yes, she has little whiskers despite being female in The Lion King universe.

She's the youngest, not to mention the quietest & more reserved of the litter. Named after her parent's fermented fruit-induced romance, she's altruistic with genuine love & compassion towards her peers & other critters. She'd even protect an anthill, which she'd also feed with bugs she catches.

Upendi is perfectly content with her simple status as a princess with not too many responsibilities, at least that's what fate seemed to offer her at first.

So what, or precisely who are we dealing with here, then? Glad you asked, figment of my imagination. I usually present characters from left to right, but we'll do it in reverse here just for enhanced comedic timing.

Firstly we have Shani, who is basically a lionized version of Cera from The Land Before Time personality-wise and kinda appareance-wise. Then we have Shaka, the tan blond Chad jerk, Mufasa II, obviously named after great-grandpa Vader, whose mismatching nostrils are a nice callback to this "We Are One" thingy Kovu & Kiara did with their water reflection, and then finally, Upendi, the quiet kid in the back of your class.

Late Mother's Day piece based on the real story of a 17-year old lioness who survived five more years in her blindness, thanks to her two faithful daughters. As a daughter & a sister, this speaks to me on a rather personal level.
