937 -> 🌍 -> 313. Former wanderer who finally found her way back to the Midwest. Black geriatric millennial, possibly having a midlife crisis. Book, makeup/fragrance, and plant lover. I put the B in the 🌈. Take from all this what you will 🤷🏾♀️
Yesterday was my first time in an At Home. I went in for a side table and placemats. Somehow I left with Halloween decorations. Pray for me yall, that store might become my personality.
I love this apron but I can’t remember the name of the creator. Because I want another one 😭 hoping someone sees this that has attended Juneteenth or Black cultural festivals in Seattle and recall the creator’s name/company.
1st day w/o contractors since closing on my home. Enjoying the quiet by revisiting some samples. I HATE dabbers but got the Marlou set on Mercari for a cheap. I love civet and indole notes. Carnicure, Héliodose, and Poudrextase are standouts and I need to track down atomizer decants. #perfumesky
Now, Masego? My brother in Christ. How did you get this cleared with Kirk Franklin? It’s a bop tho.
#SOTN is Maher Olfactive’s The Fog Cowers. Based on notes and website description, I should absolutely hate this. I’m a tuberose and chypre hater at my core. But this does it for me. Surprisingly great in warm weather, and a contemplative bedtime scent. #perfumesky
Nostos Calico has lived rent free in my head since first sniff at Fumed in March. It's also been out of stock. I set an alarm when they announced the restock date and got one (before they sold right back out again). This is comfort in a bottle. #perfumesky
Finally figured out the way to make Nespresso’s barista editions so I can actually taste the flavor profiles. Tall espresso spritz with a drop of agave.
My #SOTD for the last few weeks have all been from my (recently downsized) collection. Nothing but loves. I have been testing samples at night, most are okay. Tonight's is fun tho. Crushed Fruits by Régime des Fleurs gives Lisa Frank Trapper Keeper and fruit punch Lip Smackers 🦄 #perfumesky
My friend is visiting from Seattle. Today’s her last day but I have a required work training this morning. Wake up and I immediately smell food. Head to the kitchen for some basic bitch breakfast…and see (and smell) Phở cooking 😌 and there’s brisket in the fridge. Lord let this training end early.
My scent of the night this week has been Parfum Obims The Stoop. It’s a mineral, slightly sweet clean scent that doesn’t go metallic. Smells like wet concrete after a summer rain. It doesn’t quite hit the same in daytime but I’ll be purchasing a full bottle as my go-to bedtime scent. #perfumesky
Visited the Charles H. Wright Museum of African-American History today. Definitely some difficult content, but I appreciated that it began and ended on notes of Black joy and art. Then we headed to the Detroit People’s Co-op, where I was given the big slab of ribs instead of the 👋🏻 ahead of me ✊🏾
It kinda looks like a heart, right? Man, once I move and have more counter space, I’m gonna setup a fancy coffee bar and learn all the coffee art tricks.
#SOTD Bangla Yāsaman by Isabelle Larignon. Discovered while trying to find scents w/an indole note (craving developed due to Syd Botanica Ghost Flowers). Similar to Amouage Ashore, but much more complex and interesting. And it bloomed in the humid heat today. Might be replacing Ashore 😬 #perfumesky
Two of my hoyas flowered! They smell amazing, kinda like jasmine.
Last week's samples #perfumesky -Maher Olfactive Just Like Honey is the crystallized honey jar in your cupboard. Textured, in a good way. The Fog Cowers is a sweet, hazy chypre for ppl who don't like chypres. -Anjali Mantra: spiced hot cocoa -Universal Flower Lilac No. 4: lilacs in a wet garden
Happy Pride Month to those who celebrate. If dating wasn’t such a wasteland, I would come out of bi-auntie retirement for the month.
Last month or so, my night scents have been Syd Botanica Ghost Flowers and Honey Body (layers beautifully w/Earth Star). They were calming, contemplative scents, but a bit fleeting. They will be missed tho #fragrancesky
Saw this one yesterday and blocked. Hair style and headband is the same in all the posts. Typical food pseudoscience in digital blackface. Too many people I follow had liked some of the posts. We in danger y’all.
Scents of the weekend: Parfums Obim UV is berry bubblegum w/sweetness dialed down. Addictive! It transferred to my couch blanket yesterday and I've been sniffing it all day. L'Aventura Cotillion is photorealistic fresh cut grass. Appreciate that it doesn't lean too green, but not for me #perfumesky
I thought my monstera was on her last leg, and I just had to cut off the largest leaf. But she put out 2 decent sized leaves this week 💚 she’ll be 4yrs old this summer.
Last night’s scent was Avenue in the Rain by Punk & Dandy. It smells like being outside during a thunderstorm/tornado warning…and it’s on my full bottle wishlist now lol. As a Midwesterner this should not be as comforting as it is. Also appreciate that the melon note isn’t watermelon. #perfumesky
#SOTD and night: Absinthe Rose (Parfums Obim) and Ghost Flowers (Syd Botanica). Absinthe is a loud, neon licorice rose, Ghost Flowers is milky, dreamy flowers with metallic rain drops. Polar opposites on a day that started chaotic and will hopefully end in restful sleep. #fragrancesky
#SOTD L’Aventura Mothlight is for cool weather lazy days, like today. Description is spot on to me. Fuzzy lemon, creamy sandalwood, and the scent of a soft candle that was just blown out. Similar to Domestica Home with you, it’s a homebody self-care scent. Now it’s wine and cult doc time #perfumesky
#SOTD Montmorensy (a type of cherry) by Koromas Aromas. A fruity-floral-amber with a bright (but not juvenile) cherry note that lasts a good 6hrs. An uplifting, easy reach scent I can wear year-round in any setting. Also a compliment getter, if that's your thing! (notes in ALT text) #perfumesky
Good news: my black-eyed pea hummus and dinner charcuterie plate came out great. Bought smoked mackerel pate and these crackers on a whim, and now I need to stock up on both. Bad news: my food processor/blender sounded like today was its last functional day.
Sampling Orris Forest has been aggravating as hell. Ambrox heavy and has coumirin, which are 🚫 for me usually. Yet I adore this 🙃 Decent longevity but frustratingly ethereal. Got a sample of its sister Tempo Rubato to compare. Lovely but not satisfying whatever OF left me wanting #perfumesky
#SOTD is Journeys 4/Rima by Sarah Horowitz. Patchouli and amber are the stars, with vanilla and florals lingering in the background. I wish the blood orange in the opening stayed around a bit longer tho. My go-to patchouli scent, especially on rainy days like today. #perfumesky
Focused on my Cirrus stash this week. 1st full day, outside wears of Calico Koi and Parakeet. Both had surprising dry downs. After an hour, Calico becomes…sensual? Like “see where the night takes us” activities. Parakeet was powdery, as expected, but also workday soapy? I dig both #perfumesky
Good: bed and side tables fit. My 6'5 broker laid on the floor to double check lol. No room for a dresser/vanity, which means I have to find an alternative makeup station. Bad: ventured behind the garage. WTF is this?! Between the tiny bedrooms and whatever this is, I may have to pass.
