#NP Al Stewart - Last Days of The Century (1988). Backing vocals by Tori Amos and drums by the mighty Vinnie Colaiuta.
@misterquartet.bsky.social sent me down a rabbit hole where 1988 was still happening. It's been a really fun evening. I've also re-discovered a few gems with some unknown to me appearances from Robert Wyatt, Miles Davis, Gary Moore, Colin Blunstone and David Gilmour...
#1001Albums. I've completed the first 20. Average score so far is 3,05. Only three of the 20 are 5-stars, and Syd Barrett is the only 1-star. More interestingly, I've encountered two completely new albums that I'd never heard or heard of before. Makes it worthwhile, and the journey will continue!
#NP Titanic - s/t (CBS, 1970). Deep Purple inspired hard rock/hard prog with Norwegian origins.
#NP The Flower Kings - Adam & Eve (2004). They deservedly didn't win any awards for the cover art, but lovely music!
#NP Emma Frank - Interiors (Justin Time Records, 2023). All of Frank's albums are great. Nothing quite like her voice and the original and modern smooth jazz sound of her band.
#NP Mercury Rev - All Is Dream (2001). I rarely enjoy alternative or indie music, but I have very fond feelings for Mercury Rev which has released a string of great albums. This is one of the great ones!
1K forest run and a rare glimpse of blue sky. This is one of my favorite half way turn-around spots.
#NP Anders Johansson, Jens Johansson and Allan Holdsworth - Heavy Machinery (1996). Superb fusion album that I'm sure has flown under the radar for most of you...
#NP Allan Holdsworth - Secrets (1989). Lighting a candle for Alan and his family today as he should have been alive and kicking on his birthday today. “Joshua” always brings tears to my eyes. One of the most beautiful songs ever written and performed…
Agree. He's one of the greats and sadly remains lesser known than many of his contemporaries. I haven't got this album, but it might be that I've got an alternate release with different cover. The jazz discography is confusing sometimes...
After an exhausting Iggy & The Stooges listen, I need something more mellow to heal my hearing. #NP Strauss - Capriccio. Recording by Böhm/Bayerische from 1972.
#NP Roger Waters - The Pros and Cons of Hitch Hiking (1984). This has been sitting in my collection for decades without ever being played. Time to remedy that!
#NP Purcell - Come ye sons of Art. 1992 release, recorded by The King's Consort and Choir of New College.
Winding down the weekend with a classical music session. First out is Simone Dinnerstein's Goldberg Variations from '07. Brilliant pianist, and overall a great dynamic performance! #ClassicalMusicSunday
#NP Jim Hall - Concierto (1975). Featuring cool cats Paul Desmond and Chet Baker, the king of bass himself Ron Carter, flawless hitman Steve Gadd, and Roland Hanna on keys.
#NP Gong - Breakthrough (1986). I really like Pierre Moerlen's Gong - less acid trip vibes, and more focus on the music and grooves. A lot of cheesy synths on this one that I absolutely love!
