And then I played this final game: Rolling Bird, and lemme tell you, it's incredible! It's essentially a Rolling Thunder fan remake with a MUCH larger emphasis on RNG. Now, it obviously doesn't solve my need for a less ugly, sexier RT, but man it's just so much faster paced, tighter, and more brutal
Which led me to Elevator Action Returns! And lemme tell you, this might be the coolest, sexiest, vibesiest game ever made. They nailed the feel of a late 80s/90s action movie perfectly, the music fluctuates between being bombastic and being really quiet to let the incredible sound design set (cont.)
Played a trifecta of arcade(y) games! First one is Rolling Thunder, which is an excellent game full of measured movement, high action commitment and tight resource managment, where (almost) every shot fired is a conscious decision. Honestly a better game version of the John Wick fantasy than (cont.)
I mean, she's obviously not ugly, but I will say I wish she had a face that was at least a little bit distinct? Like, she looks like the Wikipedia summary of averageness
Played Mina the Hollower for like 5 hours and like, it's a particularly frustrating one because it doesn't do anything definitively wrong, I just... I was just SO bored the entire time? Like I felt nothing but slight annoyance. Shame.
Played the Bubsy 4D demo and didn't like it. It's got that Hat in Time movement, that works for that exploration-focused game, but to me just kind of falls apart for a linear platformer, when the main challenge comes from remembering which of the two shoulder button dives you do in which situation.
