The Kiss My Axe second edition ashcan raises money to improve the product without a crowd-funding campaign. The first target is indexing the book. Second is editing and proofing. The third is original art. The ashcan’s got none of these things. . . but it has Viking action!
Sword Noir is hardboiled sword & sorcery, and that means characters like Conan or Fafhrd and the Gray Mouser can find themselves in the plots from The Maltese Falcon, the Long Goodbye, or L.A. Confidential. Walking the mean streets where there’s no real law, only power and guile.
Like the first edition, the updated Kiss My Axe looks at different eras in which one could play a Viking or proto-Viking, and different geographic regions during the Viking Age. The history has been updated with the thoughts and conclusions of more recent historical works.
Expect to see more posts about my games and stuff as I try to get better about marketing. I mean, I won't, but I'll try. Just going to see if an increase in social media posting can get eyeballs on my stuff. fraserronald.itch.io
Not my favourite Flying Monkeys IPA, but a pretty good strong one. untp.beer/OKggp
I really don't enjoy running crowdfunding campaigns, so this time, I'm going to try something different--suggested by the amazingly wise @joshuakitz.bsky.social An Ashcan Edition. Right now, I'm getting proofs for the Kiss My Axe 2E, with both updated mechanics and also updated historical text
First really nice weekend, so we enjoyed a walk along the canal and then got some Korean fried chicken! Great way to start the weekend!
23 degrees out but the trees still look like it’s winter . . . I can live with that.
Especially considering her attempt to avoid the repercussions of her actions. If she was truly remorseful, would she do this?
Drop an album that was important to you when you were nineteen. (following this literally, as the album was released in 1985)
Age verification? I got the Lego Moon Landing kit for Christmas on the year it came out.
Okay, so the scenes for HARSHWOOD, the next F#ck 'Em Up adventure (set on the American frontier or equally ungoverned space) are done. I'm doing an appendix with deets on the town itself, then need to finish the intro, some editing, layout . . . Oh, I'm not anywhere near done. Darn it!
And in non-political thoughts (difficult, but I need to take a breath) Working on the second edition of Kiss My Axe is creating a push to update Sword's Edge (and maybe even Sword Noir). A key change to how Momentum (think initiative) works is being born, and it alters some fundamentals.
Trying to get the Kiss My Axe II book ready for POD publishers is kicking my butt. I can't schedule the Christmas auction session until I can get every player their book. BTW: the TTRPG session made the most money of any item during the auction (proceeds to Ottawa Food Bank).
Tonight’s family game night is trying out the Kickstarted Night Soil from @grailgames.bsky.social
The only time I drink Tim Horton’s is in Seoul. It’s the irony that’s so delicious.
Just finished the scenario for the game I'll run at the work Xmas party: Harshwood. It's a Western heavily inspired by "Silverado" using F#ck 'Em Up, where the PCs face the interests of big business (ranchers) and monopolists (railroad barons). Time to beat the crap out of union-busting Pinkertons!
