📖 the dragon republic : ̗̀➛ ★★★★★

I really enjoyed how I knew certain plot points weren't finished as we followed our characters doing other things. I was honestly so absorbed with what was happening I felt like I was being distracted then bam those plot points would come back at the worst times (in the best heartbreaking way possible).
There is no second book syndrome here. The Dragon Republic elevates the story while keeping readers captivated. I can't wait to see what the finale has in store after how things ended.
As always please check trigger warnings!! I'm sure if you've read the first book you kinda know what to expect

📖 the poppy war : ̗̀➛ ★★★★☆

Fang Ruinin is desperate to escape the life she was thrown into as a war orphan. Her only way out is the Keju, an empire wide test into the academies. Once she can make it to her dream military school, she thinks it'll be the answer to all her problems. Except her background & gender makes her an easy target for the noble students at the academy. She must work hard in order to secure her place, but looming in the background the thread of peace between the Nikara Empire & the Federation of Mugen is holding on by a string.
How do I even start this other than what a debut novel. Like most Kuang books, by the time we got to the end I feel like I've experienced an entire lifetime in one book alone. And the fact she wrote this at age 19 just blows my mind.
This slow burn fantasy lays the bricks one by one building up to the main conflict our characters are experiencing. We get to grow with Rin & see what actions lead her to where she ended up at the end. Once it picks up though, you'll be glued to the page.

War is in the title of the book but it's really much more than that. This book touches on how war changes people & how morally grey everything can get; how there are no good or bad sides in war & how to look from both perspectives. A lot of the time this book made me think & really reflect on these ideas.
If you've read the general summary of the book then it has a few things I would consider spoilers.
But if you haven't read it, I'd suggest trying to go in blind (but please look up trigger warnings before). I was able to experience everything that way & I felt like it enhanced my experience & l didn't know what to expect next.
The only criticism for me would be sometimes the passage of time got a little confusing. Once the time skips were dropped I had to take a second to sort it all out in my mind before I continued reading. I liked how they were dropped in subtly just wished it was sooner in the chapter.
Please look up trigger warnings before reading. It gets dark & graphic as this is a book about war.
Kuang makes sure that is as readers get the full picture & not much is left to the imagination.

She was a HUGE reader & we practically lived at the library - loved Disney specifically haunted mansion & nightmare before christmas - favorite holiday was Halloween & she loved Anne Rice books & vampires - fun fact: I grew up watching ghost hunting shows/podcasts with her #booksky 📚💙

I know for a lot of people (myself included) Mother’s Day can be a hard day for a variety of different reasons. I lost my mom to cancer at the age of 10 so I didn’t get much time with her. But I didn’t want this to be a sad post, I wanted to see what modern day books I think my mom would like🧵

Surgery went well & just brought him home after being gone since Sunday night. He is now purring & resting happy to be home!! Thank you for all the well wishes & we have a long 3 weeks ahead of us as he enters recovery💕

Last night was such a whirlwind. Salem got blocked again, decided to do the pu surgery so had to get all that set up & didn’t get home until 2:30am. He is currently hospitalized waiting on the surgeon to come in. Please send me good thoughts for him it’s been a stressful couple of weeks🙏🏻

Wow what a debut novel!! I’ve been wanting to read this since it was independently published & am so glad I was given the opportunity to dive into this world.

When I say I want enemies to lovers, THIS is what I mean. I mostly appreciated that it also wasn’t instant attraction. The author was able to describe our mmc accurately without our fmc instantly swooning over him. Most of my recent enemies to lovers reads have been “I hate how handsome he is” and reading this was like a breath of fresh air.

I always appreciate books that delve into deeper topics. Us Dark Few touches on censorship, fascism and government manipulation to name a few. Books with a message, books that make me feel are what I crave & that’s what I was given. Some chapters had me giggling kicking my feet while others ripped my heart out.

Please just do yourself a favor & pick this series up!! Fans of dystopian, found family, enemies to lovers & slow burn then you won’t be disappointed

We got rid of our bed frame & haven’t replaced it so they can’t go under even if they wanted to but I’m sure if they could they would!! We also get them those little cheesy cardboard scratchers that are little houses & they sleep in them even though their tail hangs out 😂
