If you want to get into design work, especially conceptual; learning textures, clothes, and being able to showcase different materials is important. There are so many good free tutorials out there as well. Also learn natural materials too; wood, bone, crystal, etc.

Clip Paint Studio: Overlay/Screen textures to help with clothing patterns or just adding texture to metal/leather/etc. You can use the mesh tool to adjust and also render over it if need be. It's an easy way to elevate flats and bring out clothing.
