Workers to change flat seemed startled to learn they were fixing ICE agent vehicles before offering a reluctant admission that they need to make money & can’t afford to say no to jobs. His partner walked off & came back with a shirt tied around his face to not be filmed. (vid cut in half-2/2)
Quick rundown as I head out: ICE called a fix a flat service to change their tires on one of the vehicles that has two flats and is parked in the roadway on Rockaway Parkway and East New York Ave. it is joined by three other vehicles, one of which has no registration sticker. (vid cut in half -1/2)
White Ford ‘Interceptor’ is down for the count on Rockaway Parkway & East New York Ave across from an elementary school. It’s accompanied by a second vehicle, a silver Nissan Pathfinder. A second Pathfinder just pulled up behind the two. None have hazards on despite blocking a lane of traffic.
ICE vehicle—one of 3—just left Brookdale Hospital in East New York where agents brought someone they had apparently injured while detaining. The departing vehicle left fast with two inexplicably flat tires.
Communique by anon author(s) state this is the fifth time this facility has been targeted and note Magellan operates multiple facilities in NYC & NY. “Take regenerative action!” it demands to readers. “If not you, then who. If not now, then when?” All provided anon, no named group entity.
Received a video depicting individuals smashing in the windows of a building and spray painting “MAG KILLS KIDS” and “GAZA REMEMBERS.” According to an included communique, the action targeted a Magellan Aerospace facility in Corona, Queens for manufacturing parts for military planes used in Gaza. 🧵
PEN America president Dinaw Mengestu resigned after this article that victimizes supporters of Israel and zionism. Article follows multiple instances of PEN America’s censorship of antizionists & support for genocidal extremists. Writers Against the War on Gaza commends Mengestu’s resignation:
ICE has increased operations in NYC, with an uptick in reported sightings across Queens, Brooklyn, and the Bronx. Most recent sightings were in Coney Island (BK), Corona (QNS), Jackson Heights (QNS), and Bushwick (BK). The ICE hotline is back online after being down for a month: 229-304-8720
ok now finally maybe accepting sleep (after being awake since 1am) via laying directly on top of me so i can’t get up or move 😵💫
This guy does these absurd APBs to NYPD who aren’t reading his posts to claim I’m going to cause problems or create fake scenarios when in reality I’m at the beach tit-deep in the big blue with my baby who is, to my surprise, having a blast in the ocean.
Journalist @melbuer.bsky.social’s account has been suspended for 3 days after she made a joke to a homophobic troll. Email says she got 4 strikes but this was her first notice, triggering an auto-suspension. Her work lives here: wordsaboutwork.news
I’m told same manpower will be provided, NO disruption to service, but volunteers will be from central NYPL staff (people from NYPL-wide departments, not branch staffers). Those details weren’t included in the internal notice saying no more branch volunteers:
BIG update + good news following email ending volunteers to Jail & Prison Services: NYPL affirms JPS will continue with *same* number of volunteers, just from central NYPL, not branches. Per source, internal email which provoked the uproar among librarians should have never gone out.
it had its mouth open like in the picture so i offered it some drops of water for awhile and it drank the water and now its eyes and mouth are closed like it’s napping. i tapped the box and it opened its eyes and mouth again before settling again.
ok so there’s a semi baby bird that fell from a tree and is in a box and i gave it some water and its mom is chirping up in the tree for it but baby hasn’t been chirping back idk how long it’s been like this or what else to do but it is absolutely covered in mites
Mamdani announces $15M for trans healthcare, includes launching a call/text resource support line. Notes city Law Dept filed an amicus brief against subpoenas for medical records. Hospitals suspended care to trans youth following a Trump EO. This seems to try working around that, doesn’t mention it
10 detained by NYPD and 4 detained by MTA following an early-morning disruption demo. Longtime peace activist John Mark explains why they’re protesting today as he’s carried out by NYPD:
Brief interview with KT on why she’s here today, her thoughts on being told she’s going to be arrested for this protest, and the complaints about disrupting traffic.
NYPD white shirt Clamp couldn’t figure out how to operate a megaphone and went one by one notifying people of threat of arrest if they remained in the roadway.
NYPD have arrived as demonstrators have blocked traffic for the last 15 minutes
BREAKING: On the 39th anniversary of the founding of ACT UP, protestors have shut down traffic outside Grand Central demanding “Money for AIDS and healthcare, not for ICE and warfare.”
Mamdani on Rent Guidelines Board decision to freeze the rent. Comes after a landlord rep installed by Adams resigned in dramatic fashion while decrying the RGB’s impending decision as its own “theatrics” that ignored “fact-finding” (RGB under Adams voted to raise rents annually, defying data)
i only got one shot of hasan but i think it’s not too bad. it’s neutral leaning toward joy, and also his eyes are open and he’s not blurry. i have so many blurry photos of people with their eyes closed. plenty of room for improvement, of course.
Half the crowd has remained at 99 Scott after DSA’s election night party technically concluded to watch Darializa Chevalier’s victory speech on the screen. Room is still substantially full, but less jam packed than earlier. Content warning: Strobing light halfway through.
DSA election night party ends with Seeger’s “Solidarity Forever,” which attendees continue singing acapella after the music ends. Many continue mingling, much of the conversation being astonishment and unrepentant joy.
Claire Valdez chokes up leading a chant of “When we fight, we win” and again as she introduces herself as “your next congresswoman.” Says she spoke with BP Pres. Reynoso, who graciously conceded the race.
