I study hair cells & cilia genes in zebrafish and disappear into the woods in my free time. Views are my own and do not represent those of my employer.
Will do it. Also speaking of those mitts while that photo doesn’t really show it she’s actually polydactyl so they are indeed quite large
And because one can never get enough of mountain laurels some photos as well
It’s mountain laurel season! Fun fact mountain laurel is the Pennsylvania state flower.
If anyone is looking for an ant community to invest in my patio has you covered! I do appreciate the joy it brings the birds.
Got to wear my new regalia for the first time. With an added accessory. Admittedly would take 50 and raining over 90+ and baking sun for graduation day any day.
Pennsylvania native species day seems a good day to share some more pictures of some of the #nativeplants in my yard
But hey the dire wolf thing did allow for this proud teaching moment in the fall.
I wrote a letter to the editor to my local paper (the Morning Call) about speaking out for public lands, and it got published!!! If you'd like to speak out for Grand Staircase Escalante National Monument @protectwildutah.bsky.social has some great resources here: suwa.org/actions-you-...
Earth day also seems a good day to share some photos of some of the April blooming #nativeplants in my yard.
Got my protect Grand Staircase letters and photos ready to go! Also watched the April Sierra Club action hour and called my House Rep to tell them to vote no on HR 1897 www.youtube.com/watch?v=W2Ur.... I have really enjoyed the SC action hours and wish a science advocacy group did something similar
Its also worth noting they are not done. A bill has already been introduced to do the same in Grand Staircase Escalante National Monument, a place I had the privilege of visiting when in Utah a couple years back.(6/7)
Realized I had been given bad intel when I started hearing crackling…Thankfully was able to safely cut across to the old AT and make it down. Anywhere there is a reason PA is under a burn ban and yes it does apply to campfires…
Today’s important life lesson when calling the authorities to figure out how to get off the mountain that has caught on fire during your hike make sure they have up to date trail maps so when you tell them you are on the AT they know that’s leading you straight towards the fire and not safely down
Didn’t have anything ready to present at MARZ this year but did get to see my former student Amanda presenting her work from her new lab
But you all my efforts have finally paid off and today work begun on an installing a minisplit that will be on our backup generator in my fish room!!!!! With hopefully the rest of the stuff I want on backup (fridge, freezer, incubator, etc) being put on this summer.
Con confirm, first rise was when her IBD was diagnosed and we started her on steroids, second when her hyperthyroidism was diagnosed and started her on methimazole. And yes I collect and graph data on my cat's weight.
Then once I got back to the Ecuadorian mainland I took a daytrip to Cotapaxi. Which was also amazing. We even got to take a little hike up the volcano. But that altitude (hike went from 15,200 to a little over 16,000') with no acclimation period, was not joke.
And it wasn't all about the wildlife there was amazing scenery as well. Anyway highly recommend going. It truly is a magical place and somehow managed to exceed my pretty expectations
And it wasn't just the islands themselves teaming with life but the water between them as well
And said wildlife just went about its life not the least bit concerned by us
They were absolutely teaming with wildlife. It was a very oooooh this is what nature should be like moment
About a month ago (it took me that long to sort through the pictures) I got to cross the Galapagos Islands off the bucket list.
I was in the room where it happened. Great talk on the importance of being true to your authentic self in your room. Teacher in me also appreciated the shoutout to process in your writing and importance of good mentors .
No vaccines, bringing back coal, no emissions controls...
Did not enjoy clearing the snow last weekend, but did enjoy getting to break out the snowshoes to go play in it this weekend.
I have accomplished what I set out to do in my gene editing FYS...
