DO NOT COMPLY. When I'm not railing against the criminal administration and the assault on our rights, I like to talk about science fiction, Star Trek, comics, and pop culture.
While in Denver, we stopped at the Tattered Cover bookstore in Union Station, and I decided to dip my toe back into (relatively) new comics with this digest version of Supergirl: Woman of Tomorrow. Not my usual fare, but I've heard good things, and the art, esp. coloring, is gorgeous.
Check out this fabulous pre-birthday present from my dear friend Larry! What an awesome Creature from the Black Lagoon mug- complete with a claw for a handle!
Happy 250th Independence Day! More than ever, we need to stand up to tyranny and injustice! But today, enjoy your hot dogs, apple pie, and fireworks.
One of my favorite "comfort movies," Logan's Run, was released on June 23rd, 1976! Wow, 50 years (pls, don't do the math). It was such a big deal when I saw it as a kid. We weren't getting many big budget sci-fi films back then. It was big, colorful, and crazy, and I loved it. Still do.
I watched the pilot for The Phoenix (1982) with Judson Scott. Scott plays Bennu, who is awoken from suspended animation inside an ancient Peruvian ruin. He has all sorts of powers, but our pollution weakens him. Felt more 70s than 80s. Scott seemed to be channeling his inner David Carradine.
Wishing a very happy birthday to one of the best dudes around, my pal Doug at @bronzeagebabies.bsky.social !
Found these Topps oversized Star Wars cards in the garage today. I haven't seen them in years! I only had 8 out of 30 cards. But I had them all up on my bedroom walls back in the day.
