A white supremacist found guilty of performing a Nazi salute during a film about the Holocaust says his political beliefs make him unemployable.

Self-proclaimed neo-Nazi Nathan Bull was found guilty on Monday of performing a prohibited salute at Cinema Nova in Carlton, in Melbourne's inner-north.

Bull was charged after he and others disrupted a screening of The Zone of Interest on March 9, 2024, by making Nazi salutes and mocking Holocaust atrocities.

The Zone of Interest follows the horrifying daily life of Auschwitz commandant Rudolf Höss and his family, who build an idyllic domestic life in a house directly adjacent to Auschwitz concentration camp.

Six witnesses testified about
Bull's conduct, including cinema patrons and staff, in a two-day contested hearing in May.

A lucky few have been granted what is known as a "welfare permit" – a document that allows them to remain legally in Israel for a period of three months. Still, it does not grant them the right to work in the country or benefit from health insurance, leaving them to rely on the kindness of others. With no legal right to work, they are forced to do so illegally. Those who cannot find work, or are not able to perform arduous physical labor, often turn to prostitution. If they contract a sexually transmitted disease or become addicted to drugs, they are not entitled to state-sponsored healthcare.

I went to the #Peace Park in #Hiroshima today. This is like church for anti-war people. I put a paper crane into the shrine, pledging up dedicate my life to the universal cause of peace. Promising we will end nuclear weapons. I promise… We have to try.
