On the other hand, I went to a local coffee shop over the weekend that bills itself as bean to cup. The family owns a plantation in Brazil, imports their coffee to the US, roasts it locally, and operates three shops in the metro area.
I met a guy last week who works on airplanes. His family is from Guatemala, where his grandfather still runs their coffee plantation near San Marcos. He confessed to me rather wistfully that the farm will likely die with his grandfather. No one from the younger generation can/wants to keep it going.
