Tax Justice UK
@taxjusticeuk
A better tax system that benefits everyone in the UK. Sister organisation of @taxjusticenet.bsky.social
Our democracy is for sale. Our politicians are being bought. Now the Elections Bill has been delayed, Burnham has a choice: strengthen it & kick Big Money out of politics, or water it down & let the super-rich continue eroding our democracy. Act now: actionnetwork.org/letters/our-...
The super-rich have no problem measuring wealth when they want to sell a mansion, buy a stock or insure a yacht. Here’s Gabriel Zucman, globally respected economist, to remind everyone that it isn’t suddenly some magical mystery when its needed to calculate a wealth tax.
"The very richest continue getting richer, partly enabled by a tax system which allows them to pay lower effective tax rates than the rest of us." Our very own Caitlin Boswell tells it straight on GBNews. 🔥📺
Despite what you may hear from the loud & greedy minority, most millionaires— like Tim Stumpff— are happy to pay their taxes & proud to stay in the UK. Check out Tim's take on reports the Govt is looking to revive its Golden Visa scheme, in the FT. 👉 www.ft.com/content/50cc...
World leading economist, Joseph Stiglitz, is someone you should listen to when he speaks. And guess what…he backs a wealth tax to make the #FilthyRich pay their fair share. #WealthTax #TaxTheRich #WealthInequality #FairTax #EconomicJustice #UKPolitics
Last year we took nearly 750,000 signatures to the Treasury. Rachel Reeves may be on her way out — but our movement is here to stay. Add your name to our new message to the incoming PM and Chancellor. If they don't tax extreme wealth, they'll be out too. ✍️ you.38degrees.org.uk/petitions/de...
The super-rich are loving life while the rest of us are only a missing payslip or two away from crisis. Vested interests will point fingers at anyone but themselves to divert attention away. But it’s time to tax extreme wealth now.
Just seen #HowToGetFilthyRich with @garyseconomics.bsky.social ? Want to help us win a Wealth Tax? Well with a new PM incoming & public pressure at fever pitch, this is our moment. Make sure the first thing on Burnham's desk is a demand for a #WealthTax! you.38degrees.org.uk/petitions/de...
For almost a decade we’ve been leading the fight for a fairer tax system that works to deliver for regular people. In that time we've helped put wealth taxes on the map & we won't stop until the super-rich pay their share, like the rest of us. Join us: www.taxjustice.uk/sign-up-to-o...
In Britain, a tiny elite has become #FilthyRich while everyone else struggles. Don’t miss @garyseconomics.bsky.social's major doc on @channel4tv.bsky.social tomorrow night to see how a #WealthTax could fix things. Join the fight: www.taxjustice.uk/sign-up-to-o...
Accepting registered donations from Trade Unions is good for the same reason accepting secret donations from crypto billionaires & convicted fraudsters is bad. Because politicians work for the people that fund them. Kick Big Money out our politics 👉 actionnetwork.org/letters/our-...
We're building a movement to rewire the tax system so it works for everyone. A system that taxes extreme wealth fairly. To invest in things that matter to all of us; like affordable housing, cheaper bills and cash for our communities. Sound good? taxjustice.uk/sign-up-to-o...
We’re calling for a wealth tax that would only apply to people who have above £10 million in net assets. That means around 99.6% of people wouldn’t pay a penny more. So louder for those at the back. A wealth tax targets the super-rich who've been able to opt-out for too long.
A tiny amount of people own more wealth than most of humanity. Gabriel Zucman brings receipts to show how wealth that has been accumulated at the very top has ballooned. In the UK, just 50 families own more than half the population combined. It's time for a wealth tax.
The super-rich aren't getting wealthier because they're working harder. They're getting richer because they get their income from the assets they own. Worse yet, they pay a lower rate of tax on that income than who get their incomes from going out to work for a living.
The Duchies of Lancaster and Cornwall should be treated the same as every other business. Tax payments should mandatory, not voluntary. No more opt-in or opt-out for the super-rich. That's what TJUK's Joe Wright told Channel 4 News when asked about the Royal tax affairs.
We're losing the entire schools budget to unpaid tax. That's what the Gvt Tax Gap estimate showed last week, which has grown to a staggering £60bn. This is money that could be spent on things that matter to make life better for everyone. Read more at taxjustice.uk/taxgap26
An investigation by OpenDemocracy found that Palantir has paid very little UK tax, despite receiving over £670m in UK public contracts. How? By booking profits overseas, and using tax loopholes for paying staff with stocks to reduce their corporation tax bill.
Oops, he just said the quiet part out loud: cutting taxes for fossil fuel giants to l̶o̶w̶e̶r̶ ̶y̶o̶u̶r̶ ̶b̶i̶l̶l̶s push their profits higher. We say tax excess profits, cut bills, build renewables, break free from fossil fuel doom-loops. Agree? Act now: you.38degrees.org.uk/petitions/ra...
The public feel very strongly about the wealthiest not paying their fair share of tax. Which is why our Policy and Advocacy Manager, Joe Wright, says our tax laws should apply to the King and other members of the Royal family, as they do to everyone else.
Can the UK have a ballot on introducing a wealth tax? Asking for 78% of the country...
We hope Bernie Sanders is right, because wealth taxes are about more than money. They are an essential step to tackling the extreme wealth & runaway inequality threatening our democracies, our planet, our economies & our societies— from California to Coventry. www.theguardian.com/technology/2...
🎺For the 1st time ever, a reigning monarch has published their tax accounts… Well, some of them. 👀 Despite the fanfare, this is only 1/3 of the story. But as our very own Joe Wright made clear on Sky News its enough to confirm what we already knew: taxes work differently for the rich & powerful.
🏠❤️ Houses should be homes NOT piggy banks for dirty money. 🐷💰 The UK should have been discussing this at a major global summit this week, instead it's delayed until December. Thanks to MPs like @rebeccalongbailey.com for demanding better. Visit taxjustice.uk/campaign/dir... to act now. 🕵️♂️
Today the UK should have been hosting a major global summit on dirty money— instead it’s been kicked 6 months down the road. Thanks to MPs like Andrew Mitchell MP calling out the inaction at a recent debate. Visit taxjustice.uk/campaign/dir... to act now.🕵️♂️
Burnham is the clear frontrunner to replace Starmer. So, where does he stand on taxing the super-rich? Well, luckily Louisa Munch asked him just that, back in November, when he came down to see the @patrioticmillionairesuk's bus tour. #wealthtaxes #ukpolitics
🤑The report also shows that the top 2% of individual taxpayers now dodge more tax than the bottom 98% combined, responsible for blowing a £3.6 billion hole in the budget for our public services... 2/3
Burnham is one step closer to Westminster. But would the potential new PM be the one to rein in the mega-corporations, tax the mega-rich, and finally close the door to their lobbyists? Check out our analysis of everything tax this week: taxjustice.uk/blog/what-wo...
This is why it matters that the govt has pushed its illicit finance summit back 6 months... In that time £400bn in dirty money could wash through the UK’s networks. That hurts all of us. Thanks to Steff Aquarone MP & every MP keeping the pressure on. Find out more: taxjustice.uk/campaign/dir...
The UK does have a 2‑tier tax system. A pay‑what‑you‑want deal for the super‑rich & a make‑up‑the‑gap deal for everyone else. But Reform don’t have a plan to fix it. This policy just distracts from their billionaire backers by pitting low‑paid workers against each other. 🧵1/4
