I co-host the Straight Up Sabres podcast, watch a lot of movies, root for a collection of disappointing sports teams, write occasionally, and apparently use Bluesky now too.
This argument hinges on a misinterpretation of the "if our best athletes..." cliche, but this is is especially wrong. Soccer is far and away the #1 sport in every country that finishes ahead of US. Meanwhile, the men consistently make the round of 16 despite it not being a top 5 priority sport here
Lest you think only the right is freaking out about this, there is a handful of people on LB taking it a step further and condemning the entire project because of the alleged erasure of Greek people. Here's a snippet from my favorite:

Agree with the main point here, but don't think it's wise to invoke the pernicious idea that taxation is theft if/when tax dollars are spent unwisely.
The modern NBA second-round pick takes quite a journey in their college years.
"Please keep in mind, your honor, that this isn't just any old bologna showdown"
For example: this may be true, but the hyperlink is just a study on where people watched big games in 2024 with no context of where that compares to past years: yougov.com/en-us/articl... And the proof that standard sports bars are dying? Hooters and Twin Peaks filed for bankruptcy!
Feel like this may be overstating the case a bit. I mean, I can literally walk out my front door and hit two dozen bars showing sports within a half-hour.
The Bills post-draft Instagram post has literally hundreds of comments like this. The people really have turned against Beane. Things are gonna get ugly in a hurry if they don't start strong next year. Sabres in 5, btw
Box office top 10 the last time the Sabres played a postseason game. I actually saw the midnight premiere of Scream 4 after game one. Maybe the best day of my life in hindsight!
