The other day I rode by the scene of a car crash on 5th and Washington and there were 5, FIVE cop cars on the scene. A car drives into the Alameda Estuary and 26 firefighters show up. Our cities function as an elaborate car and fossil fuel subsidy.

🚨 WATER RESCUE 🚨
On June 28, 2026 at 9:46 p.m. the Alameda Fire Department responded to a report of a vehicle into the water with one person trapped at the Grand Street Boat Launch.
The initial response consisted of two Engines, one Ladder Truck, one Rescue Company, one
Rescue Boat, one Medic Unit, one Battalion Chief and the Alameda CARE Team. One additional Engine, one Fireboat and 2 Medic Units were also requested to the scene.
The first arriving unit confirmed that a vehicle was submerged approximately 15 feet deep and was located 100 feet from the shore. The Alameda Fire Dive Team initiated a dive operation and removed one victim from inside the vehicle. The adult male patient was then transported to Highland Hospital with life threatening injuries. A secondary search of the vehicle and surrounding area was completed and no additional victims were found. The dive team then assisted the tow company with recovery of the vehicle.
A total of 26 firefighters responded and
there were no reported firefighter injuries.
The Alameda Police Department, United States Coast Guard and Alameda County Sheriff's Department all provided assistance. Additionally, the Oakland Fire Department provided mutual aid station coverage.

Which forms of transit and active transportation (bicycling, walking, scooters, wheelchair) do you use on a regular basis? For what types of trips and why transit?
None regularly; BART irregularly. Moving soon to Watergate complex and expect to use Emery-go-round, bicycle, and walking very regularly. Why? --better for the environment, better for my body.
Transportation is the largest single source of carbon emissions in California and in the Bay Area. The largest share of transportation emissions come from single occupancy vehicles. If elected, what will you do to help substantially reduce transportation-related greenhouse gas emissions via shifting trips from being done via car to being done via transit, biking and walking?
I'm not going to make promises I can't keep, and that includes not introducing bills that will go nowhere. So as a new legislator, I'll support any initiatives for those purposes that make it to a committee I'm on or to the Assembly floor that clearly help meet the shift you describe, and, if it's unclear, I'll consult some of the advocacy groups sponsoring this questionnaire.
