I made bread so good it gave me a ratatouille flashback to 25 years ago I'd just moved to America. I was homesick, lonely, and deep, deep in the closet. I found some good crusty bread and it tasted better than bread had ever tasted and somehow I felt okay for the first time in weeks

Another thing find in a 30 year old box of junk: Negatives of long exposure photos of a CRT screen showing renders from the ray tracer I wrote for my dissertation. The university didn't have a colour printer so we improvised.

A set of film negatives held up against a window so they're back lit, CGI images of geometric forms are visible in the images on the film.

$The same image colour corrected to invert the negatives. The first few show the platonic solids floating against a blue sky, then unions of each with it's dual, then more complex scenes with multiple shapes on an infinite plane with reflections and refractions, and break downs showing the different stages of rendering.$

Projecting text onto an object using a raycast node in a shader. #blender

The editor view in Blender, the cube with extrusions sits on a cyclorama next to a human outline for scale. To the side of the main scene there's a text object with the text that's being projected onto the object.

Shader nodes showing the raycasting setup - offsetting the ray source position to the location of the text object and firing rays vertically down into it. The output of the ray goes into the base colour of a principled BRDF node, making the projected text white on a black cube.

More 90s vibes

My serious gaming rig - An Acorn A3010 with aux cables connecting it to a portable stereo tape deck for sound output. It's on a 2-tier desk with a CRT monitor on the upper tier. A second CRT sits on a high chest of drawers, with a Sega Saturn and a tower-style CD rack on a lower chest of drawers beside it. There's an acoustic guitar in the corner. I'm not sure where this photo was taken, the walls don't match my bedroom at home or any of the other places I remember living.

Mum gave me a box of junk to sort through - I found photos of my childhood cat, Kitt! ❤️🥹

My childhood cat, Kitt (so named because 8-year old me was not allowed to call her Knight Rider). She's sitting on my bed which has striped bedding, as was the fashion. In the background there's a sink, and the walls of my bedroom are adorned with Lambourghini Countach, Terminator 2, and Garfield posters.

Many treasures lie upon the shelves including: weird Fimo sculptures I made, some very 90s sunglasses, novelisations of The A-Team, Airwolf, and Street Hawk, the manual for a Casio keyboard (it had a sampler), and a yellow folder that I used to keep the rules for Game's Workshop's epic-scale Space Marine game.

i love finding real-world examples of procedural generation jank stuff that just intersects or awkwardly butts up against other stuff in implausible ways because it's an edge case nobody coded for but somehow irl

Photo i found on Pinterest of some zebra crossings in Shibuya, Tokyo. A construction site awkwardly juts out into the road, blocking the road on a weird diagonal angle. The markings for one of the crossings have a kink to them as if they've been bent to line up with the edge of the construction, and the crossing is roughly a parallelogram rather than rectangular. Two crossings meet on one corner with no apparent logic for how to draw joining or overlapping crossings, one simply stops and the other breaks down with its stripes becoming shorter. There's also lots of overlapping shapes where the road's been patched up and the crossings partly redrawn but not quite lined up. There's a lot of jank in this shot.
