When Thomas Gilcrease first visited the Freedom Train and began assembling his collection, many Americans did not enjoy the liberties described in the
Declaration of Independence. Non-white citizens were routinely denied their rights, while centuries of broken treaties limited Tribal sovereignty, issues that reverberate today. Since the earliest days of colonization, the continent's Indigenous communities have asserted their stewardship over stolen land,
while demanding self-determination in language and governance. Transnational
reclamation movements such as LandBack represent the "long legacy of prganizing and sacrifice to get Indigenous Lands back into Indigenous hands (landback.org). Tribal governments and Native communities, activists, and
artists advocate for justice on Native land throughout Oklahoma and beyond.

Thomas Gilcrease's vision for his museum was born out of a conviction that Native American history is American history. On the 250th anniversary of the Declaration of Independence, Gilcrease's collection reminds us that our national life is inextricably tied to Native America.

Will hyper-individualism ever die off...

People are divided. They are
discouraged from organizing or
developing solidarity with fellow
vorkers. But it's hardly individualism when 99.9% of people have little to no say in decisions and are turned into
pawns of a handful of corporations and rich people.

The ideology may use the rhetoric of individualism, but most people are not encouraged or even allowed to flourish as individuals.

Ultimately, We need to become
conscious of how the individual and collective are not strictly separate and can only flourish when they are in harmony with each other on a deeper and more meaningful level. That's one
thing Ilike about socialism - it
empowers the individual and collective to uplift each other because it recognizes that they are part of one another.
