A large old eucalyptus tree on top of a hill standing tall above the surrounding pine plantation. Very tall, very old. The leaves and branches are shaped like a huge green heart. It contrasts against a blue sky with thin high whisps of cirrus cloud and condensation trails from planes.

#FungiFriends #MushroomMonday Some fungi friends discovered last week while geocaching on Ngunnawal Land near Canberra

Cluster of 5 or 6 small golden coloured mushrooms looking a bit worn with age, nibbled around the edges and beginning to curl. All creating a frilled effect around the edge of the cap.

Reaching through the fence into the forested reserve i managed to take photo of these 3 shiny olive green mushrooms. 2 look as though they are newly emerged from the grey dirt and the one in the middle has been knocked onto its side, probably by a wombat or roo. The one on its side displays the orange and cream quills underneath the cap. They are naturally framed by 2 thick old greying sticks, with dead brown eucalyptus leaf litter lying around.

3 small golden orange mushrooms shaped like nipples

Striped scallops of turkey tail mushrooms growing on an old rotting tree stump. They have a velvety texture and the colours of the stripes range from cream, chocolate brown, chestnut, grey and slate blue.

Extra brag, 2002/3 i also worked as a volunteer for 3mths in a bird rescue and rehabilitation centre in Esposende, Portugal with their equivalent non-profit group. Sick migrating birds washing up covered in crude oil. Hard work, sometimes heartbreaking, but we celebrated every healthy release.

A very young me, long brown hair in ponytail, navy blue tshirt, white plastic apron, white latex gloves. A pump and tube full of vitamins and fish paste is under one armpit as I open the beak of a ganet, a large angry bird about the size of a pelican, to intubated it during an oil spill recovery project. All the ganets survived. They were our first 3 rescues and stayed the longest. The rescue programme was called Operatio Ganso Patola. It was initiated by ICN, Portugal's Institute for Nature Conservation and run by volunteers, uni students, veterinarians and seconded park rangers.

Inside a dark cave there are a cluster of small, fragile, creamy white stalactites, calcium formations slowly growing from the limestone ceiling. Some of the long thin stalactites have a drip of water shining on their tips, about to fall. Over hundreds and thousands of years the gradual dripping deposits calcium. Eventually these little growths will reach the stalagmites growing from the floor (out of frame).

Woke up to snow on Ginini and Mt Franklin this morning! Did you know Mt Franklin was ACT's ski chalet. They even had a towbar run off an old car engine. For a cool day trip, you can visit the information centre onsite. Pun intended. #cbr #Canberra #snow

White, blue, green and black stripes swiped up the picture. It was an accidental abstract of a green possum in Atherton Tablelands, QLD, Australia. You can't see the green possum, only the colours of rainforest and sky.

This is the green possum i was trying to take a photo of in the first image. These possums have a super fine filament in their hair, which behaves like a mirror reflecting the green rainforest. They are a threatened species due to habitat loss. Atherton Tablelands Queensland Australia

Feeling sore and sorry for myself tonight. Dislocated ribs from my sternum plate. Climbed down between boulders at an awkward angle and ¡POP! I've done much worse, numerous times, but it doesn't make new pain any more bearable.
