In the wake of Sony killing off discs here’s my pride and joy. I’ve gotten a few more games since this photo but man I’m sad to see physical media go :(
70) Yooka-Replaylee | Switch 2 While the QOL changes are very much appreciated, they do not cut at the core of what made the original so lacklustre - such as the barren environments & frustrating design choices - if anything, these issues are only exacerbated compared to more modern contemporaries.
69) Dead Space | XBSX I could not lavish enough praise onto this masterpiece if I tried. From the incredibly varied weapons & powers, to the subversive scares & eerie atmosphere, this game truly excels at everything it does; only being hampered by a couple of glitches when doing things out of order
68) Ghost of Yotei | PS5 This game wore out its welcome very quickly for me - the new weapon types & slightly more fleshed out side quests were not enough to make up for the complete downgrade to stealth, extremely predictable story, & bloated quest lines. I honestly think I preferred the original.
67) Sonic Racing CrossWorlds | PS5 After the mid Team Sonic Racing, it is great to see this return to form. This has gotta be the most chaotic kart racer I’ve ever experienced, making it wonderful for playing with friends, but frustrating when playing solo. All the fan service is a welcome bonus!
66) How Fish is Made | Steam After enjoying Mouthwashing, I immediately had to check out this game. Unfortunately, I didn’t really click with this one as much - it’s sort of hard to, with how surreal and nonsensical it is. The grizzly visuals and general absurdity make it pretty memorable, though.
65) Mouthwashing | Steam This game’s plot blew me away with its twists, turns & general ingenuity. While the actual gameplay portions were somewhat thin on the ground, Mouthwashing more than made up for it with its incredible art style, memorable sequences & extraordinarily well written characters.
64) Kirby’s Return to Dreamland Deluxe | Switch This feels like the New Super Mario Bros. of Kirby games - inoffensive but dull. The couch co-op is fun (save for the Super Abilities which drag the pace of the game down for the other player) and the mini games are neat, but I wasn’t gripped by this.
None of you fuckers will believe me but last night I played Wii Sports Resort 100 pick bowling and not only did I get the strike where you ride the ball on top of the barrier for the first time in my life I did it 3 times in a row
63) Urban Reign | PS2 From a pure gameplay perspective, I loved this game. A simple to learn but very hard to master control scheme, varied characters, & fun weapons always make combat a joy. Unfortunately, the story mode is so bloated, feeling as though it could’ve been half as long & just as fun.
62) Silent Hill ƒ | PS5 The downside to writing these posts right after beating a game is evident here, where I have so little understanding of the events that I can’t really comment on the stories’ intricacies yet. Gameplaywise tho, I enjoyed the puzzles, but really wish combat was less prominent.
I fought these motherfuckers last night and had to cheese them because they’re so relentless
61) Borderlands 4 | PS5 Gameplay-wise, this is the best in the series thanks to the fun abilities and level scaling. Unfortunately this has to be the glitchiest game I have played this year - inexcusable performance issues, loss of progression etc plague what could have been a genuinely great time.
Who the FUCK CARES ABOUT ANYTHING ELSE IN THE RGG DIRECT BOWLING IS FINALLY BACK RETURN OF THE KING
For prosperity I’m saving my stats for base Metal Gear Solid 3: Snake Eater here so I don’t have to crawl back to Twitter to find them. I guess I did slightly better than before…
Stats. I did non lethal for almost all of the game… before reaching The Sorrow & learning that the bosses also need to be killed non lethally… So in the final motorcycle sections at the end I went crazy with the rocket launcher since I had already screwed up Also, Google says my rank doesn’t exist.
60) Metal Gear Solid Δ: Snake Eater | PS5 It speaks to the original game’s true mastery that level design, animation work & story was left virtually untouched in this remake. Still, the updated control & visual upgrades make this an incredible way to play one of the best stealth games ever created.
