Archivist, writer, technician, teacher (in some order). Lurking. Talk to me about crossword puzzles, Soviet cinema, indie Switch games, mystery novels. Current daily puzzle routine:
Finally - Merv Griffin's Crosswords, 2008. This looks like a stub disc that just linked to a demo and/or purchase of the Windows version of this game by Oberon Media. So we don't really have a copy of it at all! www.mobygames.com/game/88647/m... www.mobygames.com/company/8391...
The puzzles are once again uncredited, but they are probably original and procedurally-generated because once again - they suck ass. Most are just really basic factual themers, like this "State Capitals" one.
Crosswords Mania!, 1999. Quite the branding pileup - this was put out by eGames, which had *just* rebranded from RomTech (hence the ©️), under their "Galaxy Software" label. www.mobygames.com/company/2128...
OK got sidetracked but back to this! Dell Magazine Crosswords, 2001, Sierra. Unfortunately this one keeps crashing, probably because there's an online component I haven't figured out how to disable. This is soon after Dell and Penny Press merged so curious where the puzzles are actually from
(seriously, come get them, this thing is an abomination; there are 75, uncredited "daily" puzzles that strain to meet 15x15 b/c they're prioritizing grid art over literally anything else - see previous thumbnail - and then a set of about 50 "themed" puzzles that are decidedly #notacrossword)
Expert Crosswords and More, 1994. Hey Activision-Blizzard, come get your crosswords www.mobygames.com/company/1001...
This one was distributed on floppy so only has space for like ~50 puzzles, but a decent variety of difficulty, and they at least are real, credited puzzles! Licensed from Penny Press, the Washington Post, and "Crossword Magazine" (tough one to search, if you know what pub this is, hmu)
Lyriq Crosswords, 1993. Hey, looks like Lyriq was an edutainment software company right from MPOW's neck of the woods, in West Hartford. How appropriate! www.mobygames.com/company/2371...
In honor of missing two of my favorite events this year - Boswords and Save the Games - I have finally done it, I've investigated and emulated all the crossword games in MPOW's software holdings
