What is the most recent post-2020s Australian film that you've seen that you would recommend to people? Me, it's Penny Lane is Dead - out in Aussie cinemas right now. Bleak and brutal but also darkly comedic. This is an engagement bait post.

Not blocking this account because I feel it's worthwhile having a laugh at suggesting that human music needs to its own space for fear of being overtaking by the 'superior' AI slop music.

This might read like it's staged, but the reality is that it's an example of how prevalent these cameras have become in Perth.

The arrest unfolded in real time, behind a bank of television microphones at Perth’s busy Mirrabooka bus station. As Western Australia’s police commissioner, Col Blanch, spoke to reporters on Thursday 2 July, a camera mounted on a nearby marked police van had been quietly panning across the interchange.

It can scan hundreds of faces a minute, instantly cross-referencing their profiles against a database of about 4,000 people: those with outstanding arrest warrants, registered child sexual abuse offenders and people reported missing.

Midway through the media conference, the algorithm pinged. Officers stepped into the crowd and led away a woman wanted for failing to appear in court.

“Commissioner, can we just get your reaction? There’s just been an arrest from the cameras behind you right now,” a reporter said.

“Been happening all week,” Blanch said. “I’d love to say I planned that but I think that’s exactly what the technology is … People are being arrested because they are wanted.”

A few things: 1st: AI has reached a pivotal moment where noted tastemakers - ska musicians - are excited about using generative AI for their music videos. 2nd: the band not getting paid for a music video does not mean that other creatives should not be paid for their work.

Here is a music video I created for SUNNY COAST RUDE BOYS SKA band THROW ME A ROPE. I had too much fun. It’s All Ai.
I should point out that in all my years of making music videos for everyone from INXS to BARNSEY and beyond. Shooting music videos is not something band members usually enjoy.
Why? Because they are rarely paid for the days on set spent shooting them.
What’s great about this video the whole band were into it they all supplied images of themselves and some art from a friend they got permission from and I weaved it all together based on their brief and some performance driven selfies for lip sync.
And what’s more we are free to imagine something fantastical thats normally out of reach for the usual $2000-$5000 music video price tag.

The first three are unshakeable. Had to limit myself to one Mario otherwise would be easy to put many Mario's. Gris is perfect, as is Journey and God of War 3. Parodius was my life for years. Specifically the Gameboy version of Tetris. I have no idea why I like the third entry in series so much.

International controversy was caused by an act during the "Red Faces" segment during the second reunion special on 7 October 2009 called "the Jackson Jive".[42] The sketch featured six performers: five dressed as the Jackson Five in matching blackface outfits and wearing large afro wigs, with their teeth made extremely white;[43] and one as an adult Michael Jackson, his face painted white, with Michael Jackson being portrayed by a man of Indian heritage.[44] They sang the Jackson Five's hit "Can You Feel It" in a jive style.[45][46] During the act, a cutaway showed a caricature of Kamahl with a caption reading "Where's Kamahl?".[42] Red Symons eventually gonged the act off.

The group had performed the same act in "Red Faces" in 1989, without incident, during Hey Hey's original run.[47] This was not the only act to do blackface on the show — a woman using the alias of Mammy Smith (a reference to Mamie Smith) wore blackface to do a cover of George Gershwin's "Summertime" in an episode in 1993,[48] while Somers himself had also appeared in brownface or blackface on multiple episodes, including a tribute to the late Ricky May in 1988 and in blackface to make fun of Kamahl.[49][50]

American musician Harry Connick Jr., who performed on the show, was serving as a guest judge at the time and strongly expressed his disapproval of the skit when asked to give a score, and also later on in the show, and gave the performers a score of zero.[51] He appeared visibly uncomfortable throughout the skit.[52] He said, "If they turned up like that in the United States, it'd be like Hey Hey There's No More Show."[45] He later said that he would not have agreed to be on the show had he known beforehand about the sketch.[51]

Somers apologised to Connick on-air after a brief station break. He said that nobody had intended to deliberately offend the viewers, the guests, or the audience, and he described the sketch as a "bit retro".[44] The incident drew some negative response within Australia, but it drew heavy negative reaction from commentators around the world, including in the US and the UK,[44][53] and it prominently highlighted significant differences between the cultural acceptability of blackface in Australian culture compared with American culture.[47]

Enough negativity. Luna graduated puppy school this week. She has now enrolled into puppy university where she aims to get a masters degree in pats and treats. This morning there was thunder and that was a Big Concern. She voiced her concern and the thunder stopped. Thor vanquished at last.
