CONGRATULATIONS to all the winners! 🏆🍾 And our thanks to all the independent judges and panel chairs for the hard work they put into the Daggers throughout the year. Without them, none of this could happen. 🗡#CWADaggers
And the KAA Gold Dagger 2026 WINNER is… ABIGAIL DEAN, for ‘The Death of Us’ (Hemlock Press) 🗡#CWADaggers
Finally, we reach tonight’s ultimate award: the coveted KAA GOLD DAGGER, given to the best crime or thriller novel of the year. This Dagger is sponsored by Kevin Anderson & Associates @KAWriting. 🗡#CWADaggers
And the Ian Fleming Steel Dagger 2026 WINNER is… SA COSBY, for ‘Kind of Ashes’ (Headline) 🗡#CWADaggers
Time for the IAN FLEMING STEEL DAGGER. Fleming said a good thriller had one essential criterion: ‘One simply has to turn the pages’. This award is for thrillers set in any period, e.g. noir thriller, spy fiction, and action-adventure stories. 🗡#CWADaggers
And the ILP John Creasey First Novel Dagger 2026 WINNER is… LAURA McCLUSKEY, for ‘The Wolf Tree’ (Hemlock Press) 🗡#CWADaggers
Next is the ILP JOHN CREASEY FIRST NOVEL DAGGER, named for the CWA’s founder and creator of the Daggers (and whose estate is managed by ILP). This is awarded to the best crime novel by a debut author. 🗡#CWADaggers
And the Twisted Dagger 2026 WINNER is… SARAH PINBOROUGH, for ‘We Live Here Now’ (Orion) 🗡#CWADaggers
Now it’s the turn of the CWA TWISTED DAGGER, for the best psychological thriller, suspense thriller, or domestic noir novel. This award celebrates dark and twisted stories, often with a sting in the tail. 🗡#CWADaggers
And the Whodunnit Dagger 2026 WINNER is… MEL PENNANT, for ‘A Murder for Miss Hortense’ (Baskerville) 🗡#CWADaggers
Now it’s time for the CWA WHODUNNIT DAGGER, for the best cosy crime, classic, or Golden Age-inspired mystery. This Dagger celebrates books which focus on the puzzle at the heart of the mystery. 🗡#CWADaggers
And the Historical Dagger 2026 WINNER is… NINA ALLEN, for ‘A Granite Silence’ (Riverrun) 🗡#CWADaggers
We return to books with the HISTORICAL DAGGER, SPONSORED IN HONOUR OF DR MARILYN LIVINGSTONE. This is for the best historical crime novel, set up to 50 years prior to present day (For mixed timelines, at least 3/4 must be set in the past). 🗡#CWADaggers
This year, the Diamond Dagger goes to fan-favourite MARK BILLINGHAM, author of the long-running Tom Thorne novels as well as his new Declan Miller series, and a previous winner of the Dagger in the Library. Congratulations, Mark! 🗡#CWADaggers
