I've gone though this so many times, my latest, Tiger, who was to bold and exploratory for her own good, most likely taken by a great horned owl in Palm Springs, CA, great hunter in her own right, and a rascal, and now my Lucy has been diagnosed with kidney disease. My heart aches constantly.

The answer is simple. The human brain is capable of denying what it empirically knows to be true.
Well here in Palm Springs, CA i got bit by the most adorable little long tailed mouse and called to ask should i be worried about hantavirus, they said no. So far so good. And it was absolutely adorable, and had every reason to bite me. It was the cat's fault, and the dog's.
