Adrift in the Anthropocene
I blame Penelope Keith for the rise of Thatcher as I'm quite sure her Margo convinced a generation that humourless Tory hausfraus had secret hearts of gold. It was hardly Keith's fault; she was a magnificent presence in everything. My favourite was her BBC Radio Agatha Raisin. Check it out.
Day One of the World Cup. Infantino looks forward to a corruption-free tournament.
And the Damned. I might have seen this band more often than any other. Possibly the wettest gig I have ever been to, which explains the blurry photo.
Last night's giggage. Conscious Pilot, who seems to have a fondness for Television.
Well, that got messy and unpleasant. But I did make sure to wash my hands thoroughly afterwards.
And the headliners. I almost wrote 'Magazine'. Dave Formula and Noko. superb set and superb gig.
Four years into his reign before I finally see a coin with his face on it. No sign of a note yet, although I am in Scotland and we don't put current monarchs on our banknotes.
Just been served two beers instead of one. Tapped the tap twice and held up one finger. Pointed out the error but paid for them. I can work with this.
Had a brief conversation this morning with a pal about the Dixon Avenue explosion. Pal: "It's a shame what happened to them but those Asians kids are just daft with fireworks." Me: "Mate, you're a member of the Green Brigade."
I brought Ted the tiny terrier a dog chew earlier this week. He's extremely happy but the chew is ageing alarmingly.
Just found a beer with my name on it. If anyone asks, that's what I'm drinking!
And then the Cosmic Psychos. The wrong drummer for them, which also affected the timing and stuff. But somehow this all mixed together to make them better than the last time. Ross was on great form (seemed jetlagged the last time) and the crowd was great, surfing and moshing.
First act was an Australian two-piece called Good Sniff consisting of drums and bass, which shouldn't work. But it did. Best drummer I've seen in a long time, and the bass player was pretty smart as well. Briefcase-sized effects rack. Heavy as fuck. My lungs were quivering.
