Everyone is rightfully dragging the author, but the existence of an article like this speaks to a larger, more persistent problem: writers who don't like horror writing about horror. Look at this shit:

Do we really want just one (blood-orange) flavour of film available? And for all the invention being shown by this talented new generation of film-makers, the horror genre remains a restrictive one, the straitjacket of established beats and rhythms hard to escape. Even the greatest examples of the recent elevated horror boom will usually end with the familiar final chase scene and an unpleasant twist as the credits roll.

I've been a fan of @raynewman.bsky.social's short fiction for a while--loved both Municipal Gothic and Intervals of Darkness--but his newest collection, Thin Places in Hard Concrete, may be my favorite so far. Recommended if you love spatial horror and uncanny/banal dualities. Extremely my thing.
