Ugly, cavernous black/death metal from New Zealand. Suffocating atmospherics as well, everything sounds like it was written in the armpits of a demon. Vicious, venomous, Vaeovon
Raucous, crusty deathpunk from Scandinavia, pure Disfear/Entombed worship. Enormous fun if you like a chainsaw through your punk. There's a couple of longer tracks that break the obvious stereotypes too that are pretty excellent

A glorious, instrumental post metal album from Greece's Salos this year. Ghostly, glacial and yet dense with the weight of existence, fully comfortable with jazzy breaks and even some heavy chugging
Really digging this today, I loved their 1987 debut 'Product of Imagination', and last year's 'Mysterium' is excellent old school thrash with a progressive twist
