I've always felt incredibly lucky to have seen David Bowie's Outside tour. Not only was it an amazing experience to see the mangetism of the guy live on stage, the choice of songs on that tour was superb. So many gems and rarities, some performed for the only time in his touring career.
David Bowie's 1.Outside is an album with its own archeology department - its origins are quite fascinating! INSIDE OUTSIDE: Deconstructing David Bowie's Gothic Hyper-Cycle is available everywhere on Amazon.
INSIDE OUTSIDE uncovers the boundary‑breaking ideas that shaped one of Bowie’s most radical reinventions. My new book draws on fresh and vintage interviews and deep archival research. Explore the story behind the album… now available on Amazon. amzn.eu/d/0gUtDorE
Seeing Inside Outside at #2 in Amazon's music history book chart feels like a good start!
For anybody interested, I am offering SIGNED hardback copies of INSIDE OUTSIDE for £35 (UK only - sorry!). The only way I can do this is via private sale, so I have set up an order form here: forms.office.com/r/Vja0GFNqpf
INSIDE OUTSIDE is out worldwide on Amazon, in hardback and paperback. I'm keen to do any podcasts or interviews about the book - if you run one, please get in touch! amzn.eu/d/0hGaiHkG
Two days until INSIDE OUTSIDE is published. One of David Bowie's most fascinating albums and periods, all too often overlooked, this has been a long-gestating project and labour of love. Anybody interested in reviewing the book for your website/blog, get in touch for a digital review copy.
INSIDE OUTSIDE is nearly with us… the book proof has landed! It’s exciting to finally hold the results of over a year’s work (and 30 years of obsession). Here’s a sneak peek of INSIDE OUTSIDE: Deconstructing David Bowie’s Gothic Hyper-Cycle
It's happening... soon! Anyone interested in my Inside Outside book, I will be announcing a publication date in the next week or so, but it is likely to be early July. Later than planned, but hopefully worth the wait! I'm really proud of this project, and can't wait to get it out there!
Bandcamp Friday is always a great day for people to discover the work of indie artists, and even a single sale means so much more than a whole bunch of streams. Today, you can get 30% off any release in my discography by using discount code "bcf30" thelightdreams.bandcamp.com
Both @oldsixie.bsky.social and @nicolabryant.bsky.social now have copies of 'Blackpool Remembered', a book that myself and John Collier are so proud of. I guess this was a small way of giving something back. We hope you enjoy the trip back in time!!
Anybody interested in my upcoming book about the making of David Bowie's 1.Outside album, I have set up a simple form to sign up for news and updates by email in the run up to publication... forms.cloud.microsoft/r/Q1THWTsMvh
This month sees the first anniversary of my book, Evolution of the Toy Dalek, a project embodying 40 years of obsession and collecting - and a contribution to the Doctor Who community that I'm so proud of. telos.co.uk/shop/doctor-...
I’m setting up a mailing list for anybody interested in my forthcoming book about the making of David Bowie's 1.Outside album. As I’m entering final stages, it’s just going to be an occasional email update of progress and publication details, etc. Join here 👇 forms.cloud.microsoft/r/Hk0cV3UaBX
Today is the 4th anniversary of my album Aspects, which remains my personal favourite. It was the moment I finally landed the sounds and atmospheres I’d been chasing and it pushed my mixing and production to a new level. I’m still incredibly proud of what came together here. push.fm/fl/hehi2rji
A selection of my discography is now up on Artcore - with more to come. www.artcore.com/the-light-dr...
The Twisted Road - concepts During the concept stage of @simonkewin.co.uk's cover art, having settled on a Möbius strip-shaped space station, I produced several rough sketches for composition and different iterations for a station design that defies the laws of construction.
Very sorry to hear about Lorne Martin's passing. John Collier was regularly in contact with him when we produced our original ebooks on the classic Doctor Who exhibitions. It was a pleasure and an honour to have our work met with his approval really meant a lot.
New cover commission for @simonkewin.co.uk is going well - my first illustration with a new Intuos Pro tablet (having realised my trusty 15-year-old Intuos 4 wasn't compatible with the latest Mac OS!). Looking forward to sharing the results soon...
Coming this spring, INSIDE OUTSIDE, a deep dive into David Bowie’s 1995 dark concept album, 1.Outside. The book explores the album, its origins, the 'Leon' recordings, the subsequent tour and more, in what remains one of Bowie’s most creatively fertile periods. This project is a real labour of love!
Between 2020-2022 I alternated releases between dark, heavy thematic albums with red & black cover art, and lighter, more contemplative albums with black & white cover art. These four are some of my best work. I was considering continuing the red/white theme indefinitely (I didn't, and wish I had!).
2025 creative countdown #4 Another book! Released in November, First Light brings together the best of my science fiction art and book cover illustration and design from the past 15 years. amzn.eu/d/f9JwH5X Tomorrow, maybe a cover reveal...
2025 creative countdown #3 My instrumental album Málverk was released on digital formats and CD. The album combines my fascination with Iceland and love of 1970s/80s science fiction art. thelightdreams.carrd.co
2025 creative countdown #2 Self-published in May, Blackpool Remembered is a vibrant illustrated history of the classic Doctor Who exhibition – a real labour of love for me and John Collier. Bringing together a definite paperback version of our 2020 ebook was really rewarding! amzn.eu/d/585IZ6D
2025 creative countdown #1 March saw the publication of my book Evolution of the Toy Dalek. A history of Dalek toys from the 60s to present was a joy to write and design, and a long-time ambition. Being published by Telos was the cherry on the cake! Really proud of this book. amzn.eu/d/4G2vqpW
Work on the Bowie book is going really well. The bulk of the content is drafted, but I'm still hoping for a couple more contributions. Diving deeper into 1.Outside even after 30 years, has been so enjoyable. Cover reveal coming soon!
It's a long longlist, but it's wonderful to see Amy's debut novel, Tomorrow Was Beautiful Once, nominated for best book cover and cover artist at the Indie Ink Awards 2025! @authoramyorrell.bsky.social @elsewhen.press Voting is open... www.indiestorygeek.com/a/indie-ink-...
Awakening (2011) is one of my earlier digital paintings but the one which really kickstarted things, when it was chosen for inclusion in Brave New Worlds: Utopias/Dystopias in London that same year. This piece and many more are included in my new retrospective book, First Light. amzn.eu/d/6fqtox3
