Rule 19, Section 2: This rule in red letters is a new one & pretty significant. If NY sees a punch or something that the on-field refs missed they can call down to have a player ejected. This, I believe, stems from the moment in the Superbowl where Diggs got punched

Rule 18, Section 1, Article 2: Your can have a max of 6 total captains at a coin toss. But usually you just have 1-3. I think more teams should send out 6. Let everyone have a chance!

Rule 17, Section 1, Article 1: This isn't a foul so it's different than the rule I mentioned for rule 13. This one is just a broad 'if something crazy happens, we trust the refs'

Rule 16, Section 1, Articles 3 & 4: Just an FYI. The break between regular time and OT is 3 minutes max so get them pee breaks in quick!

Rule 15, Section 3, Articles 1 & 11: This is an exhaustive list of all the plays that are reviewable. Keep it handy & when Jim Nantz asks 'Gene Steratore, can they challenge this?' You'll already know the answer!

Rule 14, Section 3, Article 6: This Three-And-One method for enforcing penalties is cross-referenced more than anything else in the whole rulebook. It is a major guiding principle from start to finish. Familiarize yourself lol

Rule 13, Section 1, Article 7: Fun fact, this is the only rule in the entire rulebook that doesn't have a set punishment. If you come off the bench and do something heinous, the refs can dole out whatever punishment they like. Technically you could be winning 50-0 & lose on this

Rule 12, Section 3, Article 1: This is a two-fer. Part 1, I love that it specifically says "there shall be no unsportsmanlike conduct" lol. Like, why is that extra sentence there? Also, there are 2 times in this rulebook the phrase 'engender ill will' appears. Both are in Rule 12

Rule 11, Section 1, Article 1: You think if a team had their postseason spot locked & the only way their divisional opponent in week 18 makes the playoffs was to just score anything to break a tie, & team 1 forfeited to keep them out, that the league would punish them?

Rule 10, Section 2, Article 2, Item 3: I know I've mentioned this before but I feel like it's gonna happen soon lol. Even if you juggle a fair catch you still have the rights to that ball til it hits the ground. Sometime this is gonna happen and someone isn't gonna know the rule

Rule 9, Section 1, Article 5: I wish I knew how they defined 'reasonable'. I feel like there are times in every game where a guy is force out on punt coverage then runs another 20 yds downfield while leaning towards coming inbounds but doesn't til basically at the ballcarrier

Rule 8, Section 5, Article 3: I think this is something that a lot of folks miss. If there is ANY question as if contact is or is not pass interference, then the rules specifically state it shouldn't be called. So any time you hear yourself say 'I think that was PI' it wasn't

Rule 7, Article 4, Section 7: Never noticed this before but if the offense lines up illegally then shifts to a legal lineup that's technically a foul. They must be in a legal setup on both sides of a shift. I don't think I've ever seen this called

Rule 6, Section 1, Article 5: We saw last year teams kicking the ball out of bounds when there was a penalty enforced on the kickoff. This year they just changed it so they can accomplish the same with a touchback if kicking off from the 50 lol. Just looks less silly I guess

Rule 5, Section 4, Article 3, Item 2: I feel like this rule's basically ignored? Derrick Henry came to mind so did a quick Google Image search and found several violations (posted below for your viewing pleasure). Idgaf, but if it's gonna be in the rulebook it should be enforced

Rule 4, Section 2, Articles 1 & 2: Did you know you can lose coin-toss choice privileges if you fail to come out for warmups OR refuse to participate in the coin toss? Now you know!

This is an extra tweet for Rule 4. Yearly reminder that unless there's a special halftime show, halftime is 13 minutes whistle-to-whistle

Ok, I've gotten through 10 out of 70 pages. In an effort to take advantage of them releasing the rulebook early this year I'm gonna plan on ~10 pages a day. That got me through Rule 3 today. I'll pick it back up with rules 4 & 5 tomorrow! Here's a pic of Thor in the meantime

Rule 3, Section 13, Article 4: Idk if I've ever seen a 'violation' announced. It obviously wouldn't impact anything, but it is in here and I feel like it's gotta happen sometimes. But what would it even be?

Rule 2, Section 2: One of my faves! If they run out of footballs the ref must use the 'best available ball' doesn't say it has to be a football! I think in honour of the World Cup, if this happens this season we should use a soccer ball! Otherwise, what ball would you choose?

Rule 1, Section 2, Article 4, Item 2: I find it interesting that, with all the 'official partners' the NFL has they don't list a specific brand or type of paint for marking the field. Just 'not injurious to eyes or skin'

It's always an immediate reminder that this rulebook is written by lawyers. They have to specify that 'illegal' just means against the rules... not against the law
