Hands up, no-contact folks, if your parents had even the slightest interest in working on the issues. Now, keep them up if they even offered to pay for the therapy to work on it. Just the author of this oped?

For my friends, this political disagreement was one more reason to go no contact. Instead, we went to therapy together.

My father was the one who suggested it. He said that he’d pay and that he’d drive from our family’s home in Philadelphia to Washington, where I live, as often as I was willing to sit in a chair beside him, in front of a therapist he refers to as “the referee.” I did not immediately take him up on the offer. I was afraid. My fear, I knew, was both justified and cowardly. I worried therapy might offer an arena in which he would remind me through implication that my life was “an abomination,” which is what the Bible calls gay sex. (He insists it describes only male gay sex that way, which gives me no comfort.)

They must overcome a law passed by Congress in 2020 that blocks the sale of F-35s unless the administration concludes that Turkey no longer possesses the Russian systems.

It appears that in order to accomplish that goal, Turkey’s S-400s — many of which are still in their shipping containers — may be handed over to a third party, according to one administration official who has been deeply involved in the talks.

A second official said the mechanism had not been worked out yet. Four years ago, there was talk of transferring the missiles to Ukraine, where they could have been used to counter Russian attacks, but that effort fell apart. It seems unlikely that Mr. Trump or Mr. Erdogan would be willing to sell the powerful Russian systems to Ukraine today. There has been talk of making the systems inoperable, perhaps by removing key parts.

The opening phase reflected that doctrine clearly. According to various sources, Iran and its proxies launched a total of about 4,400 OWADs at various countries prior to the April 7 ceasefire, for an average of around 120 per day. Most of them (about 85-90 percent) were fired in the first two to three weeks of the war. By launching so many drones and combining them in mixed packages alongside ballistic and cruise missiles, Tehran was able to keep the Gulf states and Israel on constant alert.

The House failed to extend a key surveillance law Thursday, effectively ensuring it will expire Friday night over warnings from Republican lawmakers and national security officials.

Nineteen Republicans also voted to reject a punt of Section 702, which allows U.S. intelligence agencies to spy on targets abroad without a warrant. Surveillance under the program also sometimes captures communications with Americans, and some lawmakers in both parties want to put safeguards on how that material is searched.

The House is not expected to vote again until June 23, effectively ensuring Section 702 will expire for the first time since it was enacted in 2008.
