oh and remember when USFS put out a handwringing statement on their capitulation to transphobia and then added at the end that ot was all OK because trans people can compete in synchro? Remember that??
this is classic Walden; dark, soft edges, bones of fear and mourning, and queer, whimsical magic.
this is a story about a runaway, the acquaintance who gives her a ride, and a lost cat. And the strange men from the Office of Road Inquiry who want to take away the cat.
new day new #TillieWalden appreciation post: Are You Listening welcome to Tillie Walden's weird, weird, queer rural Texas.
The deck is themed around sleeping and dreaming, and has two extra cards: the Night and the Morning, depicting the slumberer as they enter and depart from Walden's dreamlike landscapes
second #TillieWalden appreciation post of the day is one for #WitchSky / #TarotSky: the Cosmic Slumber Tarot. I'm very fussy about decks at this point and Walden's is one of the 3 I regularly use. It's full of detail and wonder, soft without sacrificing depth.
look i have had this exact gender nonconforming synchro teen experience, how could i not love this
it's a beautiful book about the way a child's life can vanish into the incredible pressure of child sports. but it's also very personal, uniquely Walden, full of vast silences on empty ice. You can feel her unfolding these uncomfortable memories on the page.
OK I'm going to do some #TillieWalden appreciation posts this weekend. The first of her books that I picked up was, ofc, her #FigureSkating book, Spinning. It's a memoir about Walden's childhood as a skater in Texas, slowly realising she was gay, and didn't want to skate all her life
@thistleburr.bsky.social had to swing by to say hi to her while I was waiting for the bus
I had 7W show up in a reading the other day; this take from the Turning Terrestrial Tides deck is interesting
catching up on @rodger.bsky.social 's Sports! newsletter. whew. sports.beehiiv.com/p/world-cup-...
also, Jeremy Abbott, incredible footwork in his own performance, but he also choreographed an ensemble that slammed on the "holy shit I didn't know you could do that" button so hard [text by Dessa, I don't think I've posted this to bsky before]
I tried twice and got Cloud the first timw, Yuna the second one. I changed some answers second time for questions where I was 50/50, and I like the Yuna result
My skates. Not just as objects/equipment, but a connection to a community, an art medium and a history
@weatherishappening.com make NIGHT COFFEE at night: save it for morning: ICED NIGHT COFFEE
-the grad's camera buddy, who brought a homemade ice camera rig, which she says is very stable & safe -...and me doing babybabystep single lutzes. a kid gave me a cool supportive nod the first time i got air 👀
It's a long term trend that's due to economic development. We have fewer manual jobs now, and more jobs that require college-level skills. P much every developed nation has this trend.
That's due to a combo of aging boomers and young people staying in school longer. Core age labor participation (age 25-54) is pretty high. There's just fewer people in that age range than in the past, and fewer workers in the age 16-24 group
