Philly/ATL/NM I'm the one in my profile picture who's not a notable figure in modern American history. "My pronouns are Yabba Dabba Do." - Murray Hill
I post this periodically, but it bears repeating: my father, born in 1915, was one of 11 children. Six survived to adulthood. That's why this sign is on my front porch:
"Post you from a different era in your life." Me, wearing a jacket with shoulder pads, standing between two famous American women.
A rainbow last evening, although some actual rain would have been nice too.
Are the nine US households that Project Jupiters claims as the equivalent use of water for their giant data center in the New Mexico desert nine mansion estates owned by the Ellisons? They are really blanketing us with propaganda. Door to door flyers 200 miles from the data center seems a bit much.
The Indiana Fever: MAGAs team. I guess the #WNBA leadership is completely on board with that.
I saw the installation called Remarkable Presence at the Mini Time Museum of Miniatures in Tucson in 2023. The tiny suitcasesndisplay the obituaries of Arizonans who'd died of covid.
As we're in the midst of rampant covid denialism today, I'll share this picture of memorial artwork that packed a huge emotional punch into the smallest of vessels. These are the obituaries of Arizonans who died of covid made into tiny suitcases seen at the Mini Time of Museum of Miniatures, 2023.
And coming soon to a hospital near you: Theodoric of York, Medieval Barber. "Take some more blood, Brungilda."
As a former Georgian, McBath winning Newt's old district has been an unending source of joy to me. A lot of white people couldn't get over all those appearances Hillary made with the Mothers of the Movement. (I hate that I can't find that stunning picture of Hillary in the middle of the MotM.)
These aren't the best pics, but here are a few of the synagogue, museum, and adjoining courtyard. Jews who had taken refuge inside the synagogue were massacred there in 1944. I also saw an amazing exhibit there of Marc Chagall paintings, most of which had never been out of France.
Well, this lower temperature is only making me feel marginally better than yesterday. And it's only 2 pm, so I expect we'll hit 100.
It's supposed to be monsoon season. This is unacceptable. Thank goodness for my solar panels.
Sometimes a bit of the absurd is what I need to get through the day, in this case the Liberace and Liza show at 54 Below.
So Richard Henry Lee is my fourth cousin, eight times removed. Is that even related?
I'm rewatching Judgement at Nuremberg and was knocked out by this close-up early in the film of Spencer Tracy as he walks through the city.
Battle of the Barbara/Barbra's A 900-page vol 1 (1907-1940) of the Barbara Stanwyck biography was on the shelf near the 900 page Barbra Streisand memoir I went to the library for. You might make some money on the prediction markets betting whether I'll finish both of these by July 22.
Funny, I seem to remember "progressives" in 2016 telling us we were being hysterical about the Supreme Court.
The very idea that Wired thought I wanted to listen to this about Sanders today is too much. Maybe Mr Prescient could have been more concerned about the Supreme Court instead of pitching a hissy fit because he hated Hillary Clinton--who was way more of a Cassandra than he ever was.
