Belatedly sharing that I listened to the grey-market reissue of Brast Burn's 'Debon' (Voice, 1975 - r. Paradigm, 1998) this morning for #CDFriday. If you like weirdo Japanese stuff with a communal vibe, you can't go wrong with this.

Kid Commando - Holy Kid Commando (Ache, 2003) Noise-rockers most well known for opening Arab On Radar's final tour, and sonically they were an apt choice. This album cover really wants to be the guy, if you know what I mean. #CDFriday

Brain Police - s/t (K.B. Artists, 1968 - r. Shadoks, 2000) Late '60s lo-fi San Diego psych rarity expanded with cuts from earlier ensembles that evolved into this one. Good fun if you can find it cheap! #CDFriday

They're making sounds, some of which are decidedly unCow-like, but the personnel doesn't lie, and it spells disaster for you at Sacrifice.

Hello, #CDFriday! Today I'm playing the 2025 Paisley Press CD reissue of Master Cylinder's one-off tour-de-force album, Elsewhere. Canterbury-adjacent fusion in the vein of the first National Health album (with some Mothersy touches), and from Fort Worth, Texas, of all places! Highly recommended.

Really groovy RIO, though ROMpler piano patches have never sounded good and the one on this recording's no exception.

Last week, I listened through the catalogue of American indie supergroup Canyon, but this week, I'm spinning one of the roads that led there: The Farewell Bend's 'In Passing' (Slowdime, 1998), which is definitely a lot more of what you might expect from a Boys Life alumnus.

Throwing on the 2024 Decca/Universal/Music On CD reissue of Pidgeon's self-titled album (Decca, 1969), where Jobriath gave us his symphonic-rock obviously Hair-inspired vision before becoming the also-ran glam-rock caricature that Phantom of the Paradise's Beef was based on.

2/28: Social Climbers - s/t (Hoboken, 1981) I wanted to like this more as it timbrally touches upon a lot of things I like from period independent music, but kept getting distracted by the Steve Winwood FM-radio butt-rock vocals.

2/27: Ruby Falls - What She Does (Personal Favorite, 1995) Splits the difference between period Olympia and Lousville bands quite nicely.

2/26: Pulsallama - s/t (Modern Harmonic, 2020 - rec. 1983) Archival radio session by this percussion-heavy all-lady no-wave collective who sound like The Go-Go's [sic] playing The Slits with touches of Liquid Liquid. Ann from Bongwater was in this band at one point, but I don't think she's on this.

2/25: Xiu Xiu - Girl With Basket Of Fruit (Polyvinyl, 2019) The 'oh man this is so fucking brutal and disturbing' reputation that this one has really flummoxes me; did someone with a platform who never experienced a Xiu Xiu album before hear this and now that's the narrative? A Promise smokes this.

2/24: Retsin - Salt Lick (Simple Machines, 1995) I have never once asked myself 'what would it sound like if Alanis Morissette fronted The Sonora Pine?', but the answer is apparently 'pretty darn good, actually!'.

2/23: Career Suicide - Machine Response (Deranged, 2017) Punk by numbers, but there's nothing wrong with that.
