The Progress Report
@theprogressreport
If you're interested in NZ politics, polling and elections you're in the right place. #nzpol www.theprogressreport.co.nz
I've uploaded the latest Talbot Mills poll, so you can use my MMP Calculator to see exactly who would get into Parliament on those numbers. #nzpol theprogressreport.co.nz/mmp-calculat...
btw is this what the makeup of Parliament looks like to me on based on Curia's results... (feel free to explore for yourself, here: theprogressreport.co.nz/mmp-calculat...)
Just did the whichparty.nz quiz - got "Social Democrat", 90% Labour Party which I think is probably pretty spot on. Cool site but only thing I don't like is they don't disclose who is behind it or if anything is being done with the data they're collecting.
Quick update to The Progress Report - I've added major historical events (elections, changes of major party leaders etc) to my polling graphs, hopefully this additional context makes them even more useful. #nzpol
Based on these Verian numbers, if Opportunity were able to sneak up to 5.2% and Labour wins back Te Tai Tonga and Te Tai Tokerau, this is what the house would look like - you could have a Labour/Green/TOP government that doesn't even need to work with Tamihere and TPM. #nzpol
I've uploaded the latest Freshwater Strategy and Talbot Mills polls to my database so you can figure out who would get elected on those numbers. Here's my predictions for what the Labour caucus would look like under the Talbot Mills numbers... #nzpol
I've made a small but hopefully useful change to my NZ Preferred Prime Minister polling graph - by default it now shows whoever was the leader of National and Labour at the time each poll was taken. theprogressreport.co.nz/pm-poll-graph/ #nzpol
I've added yesterday's Roy Morgan poll to The Progress Report database - and with Opportunity crossing the 5% threshold I've decided to update my MMP Calculator to directly include them. theprogressreport.co.nz/mmp-calculat... #nzpol
NZ Green candidate for Northcote, Bhen Goodsir has run 26 ads on Meta over the last month, but seems to be far more interested in spending his money on targeting Green Party members than on the voters of Northcote! #nzpol
I've also finally got around to fixing a bug with the graph on the poll graph and preferred PM poll graph, so the "Last Year" button now works properly, just adjusting the data to show the data for the last 12 months.
I've finally gotten around to extrapolating the 2023 NZ census data out to the new electorate boundaries - and added selected stats to my electorate profiles. Pretty happy with how they've come out! #nzpol
And by my count there were a total of 44 people who contested both those elections at the different levels of government!
Just rolled out a handy new feature to my database - on any person's profile under their election results you can now click on "See full results" and it will take you to a page to see everyone else who contested that election and how they did. #nzpol
I've updated my politician database with the candidates for the upcoming council/local board byelections (or reelection? in the case of Papatoetoe). #nzpol
I love some of these stupid stories that campaigns throw up...
I've made some big improvements to my politician database, it's now easier to search and filter by party, name and election - and best of all the whole thing now loads much faster. #nzpol theprogressreport.co.nz/politician-l...
Sophie Handford won 69.6% of the vote in her ward at the recent local government election. Excellent selection. #nzpol
This nugget buried at the bottom of The Post sorry really stood out to me. Seems like a Roger Douglas fever dream from 1987. Would love to know what he thinks of the policy!
This is interesting - National have launched an "electorate finder' feature on their website, and even put it at the first item on their nav menu. Would love to know what they're doing with the data they're collecting! #nzpol
My sister has spent a few days in an Auckland hospital. Very grateful for the care she's received but good grief take a look at the food. #nzpol
Some of the top comments on one of National's hysterical posts attacking Labour's CGT policy. They're not winning this debate. #nzpol
Looks like the Chatham Islands are going to a recount - two candidates tied for the last spot on the council! #nzpol
Yep - will hopefully be done this weekend. The status goes from Pending to Final once I've verified it.
I've made some pretty major changes to the database behind The Progress Report. I've consolidated all of my general election candidates (and extended back to 2017) & 2025 local govt data. It's now all stored together so you can see what other elections & parties someone has stood for. #nzpol
This is both sad and funny. Hilarious how bad they are at politics. #nzpol
