Chicagoan to Milwaukeean. Amateur Urbanist. Hoops, tennis, baseball. Movies and Films. Live music. Travel. "History Buff" is insulting.
It's funny how the people soliciting volunteers for canvassers keep avoiding me at the Hong rally. I'd turn them down because I know my social anxiety, but I must be giving off some type of vibe... Maybe it's the tall, quiet, middle aged white guy here alone? Looking like a narc or spy?
Been coming here since I was a kid - though I haven't been in fifteen years or so - and it's still great Chicago BBQ.
Me and a random dude won a "silver medal" in a pickleball tournament to benefit scholarships for the Latin youth of Racine yesterday...
Best burgers in the world here. The last apartment I lived in Kenosha was in the building across the street and The Spot neon sign would be projected on my living room wall at night. Very noir...
It ruled for me too. Without one of those people I wouldn't have found the Pope mural - walked right by it the first time.
Saw them last night in Madison because I couldn't make the Milwaukee show. They didn't disappoint. Burn it down!
Said goodbye to Highlands Cafe. Chorizo Biscuits and Gravy. Side of Greek yogurt, with fruit, granola, honey drizzle. Large OJ. The usual. I'll miss having a breakfast spot in walking distance but glad we had it all these years. Hope something good comes in the space.
Saw Oscar Wao at The Goodman in Chicago this afternoon. It was good! I want to read the book. But I also have 437 books on my Want To Read list...
My 97 year old grandma just gifted me her father's - who I'm named after - pocket watch, which he earned after 25 years of service at the NY Blower Company. It's been in a bank vault for decades. She said she could think of no one better to have it.
I never thought Trent would have been the most prolific, well adjusted, relatively positive artist from that generation. Never thought he'd survive at all, actually. Glad he did.
Saw Nine Inch Nails last night. A makeup show for my geriatric Gen-X bucket list as my parental units wouldn't let me see them on tour with David Bowie in Chicago in '95. Great show! Up way past my bedtime on a school night!
Heading to Milwaukee History Club. As a direct descendant of Jefferson Davis on my mom's side - that's her maiden name - and generations of Chicago police on my dad's side - not uncommon for them to drop a hard R after a greeting - it's important for me to reject any inherited racist legacy.
From The Heights Dream Library at the corner of 57th of Vliet. It was a hopeful sign of life in the neighborhood during COVID isolation.
Wife does a Valentine's Day picture of him every year. This was probably the best one from yesterday.
I'm not trying to proselytize any particular lifestyle but I bought these at Costco and am looking forward to trying them during the Big Game, even though sours and IPAs usually aren't my bag.
Well we didn't get the egg yolk because of the clouds on the horizon but sunrises on @lakemichigan13.bsky.social are always special. No ICE on this part of the Greatest Lake!
Solidarity with Minneapolis from Milwaukee. (Well, Greenfield, technically. I'm not an organizer.) The hat is still holding up, @katmabu.bsky.social !
These are the top fantasy basketball NBA players by total points scored in my league. We're about halfway through the season. Jokic is already nearly 500 points over second place. He's been doing crap like this many years in a row now. Just stoopid good at ball.
