Ultra runner, drummer, programmer. STL Cards and White Sox fan. Music is life. I'll never have it all figured out and that's kinda nice. Cocodona 250 finisher! You will hardly know who I am, or what I mean; but I shall be good health to you nevertheless.
It's such a fun (literal) change of pace. Roughly two minutes between each 400, and 4-5 minutes after the 800s.
We dodged the rain and the weather was beautiful, so Coach made sure he got everything out of us. We all struggled, & we all persevered. I fell off in the second half, but hung in there. Type 2 fun! 2x400m (77.5, 78.4) 800m (2:47.7) 2x400m (80.5, 81.0) 800m (3:18) 2x400m (85.8, 81.5) #running
Hey! Remember these? After drifting aimlessly for two months after the race, I've acknowledged that if I want to train with consistency again I'm going to have to start scheduling runs. Otherwise those weekend runs in particular never seem to happen. Have a good rest of your week, runsky! #running
Something different: Sand volleyball! I haven't played since grade school, and made up for my inexperience with enthusiasm. I had zero qualms about diving, even when I was still figuring out basic ball control. Shoutout to my partner and my running group friends for the invite.
Final: 43 miles in 12 hours. An old tennis injury flared up to keep my pal from running a final loop. He stuck to his fueling and hydration plan, didn't waste aid station time, and took care of his feet in wet conditions. A huge distance PR. I'm so proud of him. I had a great crewing experience too.
Bah gawd that's dawn! Just over two hours left to go. He's at 40 miles with a knee that's giving him trouble. I'm still holding hope that he makes 45 by 7 AM.
Every 3.25 mile loop, the runners return to the sole checkpoint and place a clothespin next to their names on "The Green Gate". Red pins equal ten unpainted pins.
It ain't much, but it's home for the night. Our camp for our wayward looping runner
The humble snack tray for our runner. It's 1 AM, 6 hours down, and 25 miles in. Just about a marathon man. He's halfway done and the vibes are still good!
My overnight crewing stint has begun! My runner is 120 minutes into his 12 hour run. The sun is setting and the daytime heat has broke. No storms on the horizon. Crossed fingers, there.
I went to run club by myself tonight, which is a major social anxiety trigger for me. It went well! An acquaintance fell in with my pace on mile 2, and we caught up. I stayed open, curious, and comfortable for once. That felt like a bigger success than the uncomfortably warm miles did. #running
Track Tuesday! The stats below don't include the 1 mile ran to/from the track. 1.5 mile warmup 3x400m (82.9, 81.4, 81.0) Recover 4 minutes 3x400m (79.1, 79.6, 80.2) Recover 4 minutes 1x400m (69.8) 1 mile cool down It was cooler and more humid thanks to storms. I felt calm and controlled! #running
I'm crewing my buddy at an overnight 12 hour race this weekend. The same one I attempted 24 hours (and ran 16) last year. It's going to be a swampy course with all the rain recently. His planning is solid. I'm stoked to be on the pit crew. Pictured: Every lap, you place a clothespin by your name.
My Steam Machine arrived today, and I'm really enjoying it so far. Equal parts living room game console and home theater PC, in one quiet, small, slick package. And I love the controller. I have wanted to have the same control scheme between PC and Steam Deck for years.
Whoop whoop! My first sub-6 minute mile in at least 15 years! All 3 of my friends hit their goals as well, despite the 95°F/35°C heat. One ran an 8:30 mile with no running experience, after a hard day at work. She felt better, she told us afterwards. We may have added a new runner today! #running
