I'm a history nerd and wannabe explorer of cold places. I also love the mountains, taking photos, playing and making video games, doing ancient Greek reenactment and occasionally Larp. he/him Vienna 🇦🇹. #IndieWeb:
US regulators have decided to give the go-ahead to a company that wants to create light pollution on an unknown scale, for everyone on earth. Billionaires are taking the night sky from us and it's making me sad & angry. 📷: # of satellite trails I already have to remove from a 15s night exposure
Paid 300+ € for tickets with a 'premium' airline, so was served an appropriate feast mid-flight.
Found a tiny snake in my garden today. It was sitting under a stone plate. Don't really know what kind it is. Looks like a grass snake (Ringelnatter), but they don't usually have that pattern? Does anyone know?
I spent a day dabbling with 3D modelling, rigging and skeletal animations. Say hi to my first ever 3D model! I'm proud of him. Given how daunting I always felt 3D art is, this was shockingly easy. Wrote about it on my site, too. Not a guide, just my experience: thesiteabout.me/gaming/learn...
Apparently this is "Not in word list". Really fed up with your BS, NYT Games Editors!
Attention: my dog is very cute. That's everything, thank you for noticing.
Umm, #Merlin is slightly overestimating my daily mobility for my bird of the day challenge. Guess I'll keep an eye out here in Styria?
Happy to report that Socke is back to her usual clownery after her surgery. She had the threads removed yesterday and we're now trying to salvage at least some of our vacation with a short trip to Styria.
First time back in my home gym in ages. They switched many of the TechnoGym machines for Egym ones with adjustable resistance curves and really cool workout modes, like using 1.5x weight on the eccentric, fantastic for muscle growth. And then they gave them the most basic range of motion imaginable.
I made a new acc where I'm planning on sharing a lot more of my photography: @mysillyphotos.bsky.social If you're interested, give me a follow there. I'll use Pinksky, an Insta-like client geared towards picture-sharing, but still using the 🦋 network, hence a different account. 🖼️ for attention.
My dog Socke has had surgery yesterday, so my task for today is following her around wherever she decides to lie in the flat to make sure she doesn't claw at her wound. She's been a total champ through the whole process. Hoping she recovers quickly. Even though we had to can our planned vacation.
I usually miss #sharemondays2025, because my mind is just on the week ahead and not on the photos I took recently. But this one is so recent, I'm actually remembering to submit it. A common kingfisher, taken this morning at the Schönauer Traverse in the Naturpark Donauauen, near Vienna 🇦🇹.
Pick your camera and scene location, select what you want to see, and the app will tell you exactly when to be there and how it's going to look. All from your sofa at home. Only thing left to do is mark your calendar and anxiously watch the weather report.
The weather did hold. Turns out I was a bit too optimistic with the landscape format and the 50mm lens, however. Had to swap for the wide angle and portrait format after all. Anyways: here's the Haller Mauern at sunset and with the Milky Way.
Since the conditions seemed optimal today, I spontaneously decided to take the camera to one of my favourite View points in the Nationalpark Kalkalpen. All set up and now I just need the weather to hold for another 3h, please.
When I'm in an aircraft hangar at 1:30 am in the morning, watching @nickbradbeer.bsky.social tinkering with potentiometers, it must mean we're running a Larp. What a mad setup day.
I took a silly little picture while on Hardangervidda. I'm calling it 'Self portrait with a rock'. The orange glow makes for a nice effect here, but god do I hate the fact that you can't escape light pollution even in the middle of nowhere.
Time to say 'På gjensyn.' to Norge today. 😞 💔 Here's a picture I took three years ago on my last visit. Krækkja turisthytte, the oldest hut on Hardangervidda, under the milky way and a bit of Aurora. I promise I'll be back sooner this time. I just love this country so much. 🇳🇴
The Fram Museum needs to get on Bluesky already. One of my favourite follows back on Twitter and sadly missing them here.
Browsing through sports shops in Oslo makes me think the Norwegians have Friluftsliv all figured out. Tur Vaffel? Say no more! Egg holder obviously required. And a 1.4l French Press. 🇳🇴 Helt fantastisk! 🇳🇴
One thing I love about winter in the north is the mornings. Everything drenched in golden light, bringing out all the contours and texture of the snow that at other times looks all flat and white. Everything outside is covered in a crisp layer of frost, and the whole day is ahead of you.
Missed the last day of the A to Z #photochallenge yesterday, because I was preparing to travel today. So here's my final entry for this round. Flights to Zurich and Zagreb. An ad for a bubbly called Zonin. A Zeta display.
Next to last day in the A to Z #photochallenge. Heavy rain today throughout most of the day, on top of the difficult letter. Not my best. Yoghurt. A yard. Yellow flowers.
