Today is the final day of this extended heatwave which started 2 weeks ago. In contrast to other two heatwaves, no extreme temperatures more noted for consistency. Earlier just short of 30C at LHR, would have been 24th 30C day however at 23 days we are now comfortably above 1976 record of 20 days.

10-day forecast sea surface temperatures & anomaly from ECMWF there are SSTs of 20C as far north as Blackpool. Perfectly normal…. All this excess ocean heat amplifies land temperatures especially at night and increases humidity. While also being highly damaging to UK coastal ecosystems. (1/2)
It really should be asked why there is no heat warning in place. @metoffice the fact it apparently does not even satisfy a yellow warning is outrageous, there should definitely be Amber heat warning covering London area. Tonight will be v warm after several hot days our homes now are v hot. (1/2)

On official network nowhere had a tropical night. I would say it’s certain that St James’s Park would have had one. Heathrow seemingly warmest with a low of 19.3c which is removed from most powerful urban heat island effect. This is the trouble of a sparse network.
Warm night here in Rotherhithe… 26.7C just after 11pm. Interesting to think in years long gone this was hottest it got all year round at peak daytime hours. In 1962 the highest temp was 25.5C at LHR only 2 days reached 25C. Coldest winter on record would follow with avg temp of ~0C in London.
What you are saying is not scientific it’s just fantasy the places that see 50C are near Tropic of Cancer where solar radiation is very intense. Covering arid/desert environments with extremely low humidity. This will never be UK.
