Clickety-click, I'm sixty-seven. How did I get this old? Lefty-wonk, woke, SJW and all the other stuff that good people are. Affiliated with me, myself, and I only. Former Brit, naturalised Canadian.
That made me smile. I was in West Germany in the mid-1970s and I can confirm this to be true. My dad had a bright, mustard-colored Volkswagen Beetle that had Demin seats.
When I was in the UK I had a Fiat Multipla, weird to look at but a very practical car. Three seats in the front, not a bench, great visibility and surprisingly good CoG. I drove that for 9 years and it didn't give me a moment's trouble, which is remarkable for a Fiat!
We planted our front and back yards with Ontario native trees, shrubs and plants about five years ago. This was 2024, a Monarch on Swamp Milkweed in our front yard. We get all manner of bees, wasps, butterflies, and of course birds, in what was once just a lawn desert.
Fair enough, but it still doesn't look right. Maybe someone has had a go at enhancing the colours, pre-AI style. Not to take anything away from the Cotswolds, it's beautiful (apart from the traffic and the high numbers of Range and Land Rovers!), we were there last summer.
From The Guardian. Vance, as ever, way off the mark and entirely on the wrong side of history. It'll be a calamity if he ever gets the keys to the White House.
As flags go, it's a cracker. Very simple yet completely identifying. I took the photo on a very cold March day in Quebec City; it's one of my favourites.
We had a nice note from our local Horticultural Society, of which we're not members, about our Ontario Native Plants front yard. It can get a bit wild in the summer, and I'm sure that the lawn devotees hate it, but it was nice to be appreciated officially.
Same as my little Renault 5 from the early 1990s. Not the best car I've ever had but with an 1100cc engine, very cheap to run. We don't talk about the water in the driver's footwell every time it rained...
Four games, two goals, and both of them in one game. New Year's hangover or what?
Carnforth, Lancashire. It's a Mecca for all Brief Encounter fans. I will get there one day!
Here in southern Ontario, I can't claim to have the birds eating from my hand, but the normally skittish American Goldfinch will get within a foot or two of a human if there's a ready supply of Lanceleaf Coreopsis seeds to be had. Our garden is bursting with said seeds in autumn, and Goldfinches.
A couple of years ago we turned over about 80% of our grassed yards to Ontario native plants and trees. We live in the suburbs where lawns are king, which is why we left a little bit grass, to appease the neighbours. We are overrun with insects, butterflies especially, and birds now. It's fab!
Nice! The first PC I ever used was an Olivetti M24. Two 5.25" floppy drives but no hard disk. We only used it as a tool to download payment data to the floppy disk from a PICK multi-user system. It worked quite well as dumb terminal to the main system.
