Norfolk County Council *CAN* respond quickly to issues. Reported these freshly installed bollards on Monday (gaps less than 1m!). Bollards relocated on Wednesday to the correct 1.5m spacing. 😀 If only they could be this quick with everything!
Increasingly relying on Freedom of Information requests to find out what our secretive local authority is up to. Have to laugh sometimes.
Or, where I started with a small frame the seat post and handlebar stem are even more ridiculous!
No - touch wood - fortunately not! The problem I *do* have is finding bike frames big enough. I have to have the largest available size and then fit a ridiculously long seat post and handlebar stem.
This really is an incredible chart. Shows the number of cyclists killed in the Netherlands each year. Look how it has fallen steadily since 1971. From the new film "All about Dutch cycling". youtu.be/jq93DgLvmFc?...
The "bike racks" were busy at Notcutts this afternoon. They really ought to install some decent Sheffield stands. No-one with an e-bike will want to visit. bsky.app/profile/thet...
Got my bike ready for tomorrow's Kidical Mass ride! Ride starts 2pm in Chapelfield Gardens. #KidicalMass #KidicalMassNorwich
That's a striking photo. Cars have got bigger, heavier (and more intimidating) in recent years.
Brilliant cartoon of the week from @davewalker.bsky.social "Wider roads as a solution to congestion just encourages more and busier traffic. Alternatives that actually provide more benefit and value for money: invest in public transport, make it easy for people to walk and cycle safely."
I like it *a lot* but to be super pedantic it's still essentially car infrastructure. I prefer what they did at the junction of Culford Road and Lawford Road in Hackney. Bollards aplenty and no parking (ignored by the van in this photo!)
Most cycle infrastructure is car infrastructure. These bollards have appeared on the Dereham Road cycle track, presumably to stop drivers using it as a short cut when traffic is backed up on the main road.
This is what my chain looks like after a trip on the Marriott's Way yesterday. Dry dusty gravel and chain lube makes a fine grinding paste! A proper bound surface is not just a necessity in winter.
Heathens! That used to be my local library. One sculpture was a metal version of the stone one.
New bike repair station (one of two) just gone in at Eaton Park. 👍😃
Sixty (!) new bike racks have been installed in Eaton Park. They've done a nice job, ten banks of six Sheffield stands concreted in on levelled bases.
I've had this bike in bits in the garage for ten years. Finally got it fixed up. Ideal for winter trips on the Marriott's Way!
A bit out of my area now but what a wonderful poster @bricycles.org.uk have come up with for their next Kidical Mass bike ride.
Stepped cycle tracks that have just gone in on Jellicoe Road, Great Yarmouth if I'm not mistaken.
I've just realised the crossing is also part of NCN1 and the EuroVelo North Sea Cycle Route! JFC!
This is where Theodore Wakeman was killed, an uncontrolled crossing of a busy 60mph ring road. “The coroner concluded that Mr Wakeman died in a road traffic accident.” NO! He was killed by Norfolk County Council’s failure to provide a safe crossing. There should have been a bridge or an underpass.
Post a sign from your country that tells a story about how they treat their roads. (National Cycle Route 1.)
