Photos of a recent WWII naval encounter (December 1939) between the Kriegsmarine & Royal Navy. The light cruisers Koln & Konigsburg, supported by four destroyers, engaged HMS Enterprise, Emerald & six destroyers. Tragically HMS Enterprise was lost. #NavalThunder #1/3000th #NavalWargaming
Last week's focus was on Kriegsmarine destroyers. Specifically, six Type 1936-class destroyers departed the shipyards. Ramblings on the models & their use, along with a few photos, can be found here: thewargamesroom.wordpress.com/2026/05/10/v... #NavalWargaming #1/3000th
This week are a number of #1/3000th scale Blackburn Buccaneers exit the workshop. These diminutive models will provide a valuable reinforcement to the Royal Navy. A little background can be found here: thewargamesroom.wordpress.com/2026/05/03/b... #NavalWargaming #ColdWar
Falklands War - 44 years ago today attacks on East Falklands begin. Following the Vulcan raid task force Harriers attack. Then the "Three Musketeers" (HMS Glamorgan, Alacrity & Arrow) conduct a daylight bombardment of enemy positions. They in turn attacked by Dagger jets. #1/3000th #FalklandsWar
On the 1st of May 1982 the Royal Navy began air operations against Argentinean forces on the Falklands. It seemed fitting to post a few photos of my recently completed HMS Invincible, in #1/3000th scale. More photos can be found here: thewargamesroom.wordpress.com/2026/04/26/i... #NavalWargaming
Wigram’s Warbirds - Following a recent post on WWII 1/300th aircraft it seemed a short visit to the Air Force Museum of New Zealand was in order. For additional photos as well as a little background be sure & read this week’s post. #WWII #Wargaming thewargamesroom.wordpress.com/2026/04/19/w...
Harpoons in the Gulf: A review of Osprey’s "Harpoon Missile vs Surface Ships," covering 1980s naval clashes with Libya & Iran. Fitting given I have recently completed some of the ships in 1/3000th scale. More here: thewargamesroom.wordpress.com/2026/03/29/h... #NavalWargaming #Wargaming #Osprey
Friday evening found American & German forces engaged in a determined action in late 1944 using the #Spearhead rules & #1/300th miniatures. Both commanders determined on a turning action. With the result unclear we continue the action this Friday. A few photos to set the scene. #WWII #Wargaming
While in the process of tidying my WWII Spearhead website a couple of old photos provided a little inspiration. Great memories of using these on the table. They need another outing. #1/300th #Spearhead
Friday evening & naval warfare in the age of sail. Two British frigates were engaged against three French. Stirring times indeed as cannon roared & masts collapsed. #NavalWargaming #SailsofGlory #Wargaming
Over recent days I've been considering scenarios for Friday's Cold War game. The focus will be submarine warfare using #NavalCommand. It seems we are off to the Norwegian Sea in 1984. How will the Royal Navy fear against those Foxtrot & Victor class submarines? #NavalWargaming #1/3000th #Navwar
The Royal Navy has been engaged off the Libyan coast. It’s 1983 & Gaddafi had ordered a Foxtrot submarines to sea. While RN helicopters search relentlessly frigates cover two merchantmen, all while the Soviets observe. Finally Libyan MIG-23 attempt a strike, though it is beaten off. #NavalWargaming
Departing the shipyards this week are three La Combattante fast attack boats for service in the Libyan Navy. Models are by #Navwar in #1/3000th scale. A potted history of the class can be found here: thewargamesroom.wordpress.com/2026/02/01/l... #NavalWargaming
Friday evening found a group of us gathering for a long overdue #SailsofGlory encounter. A stirring frigate action followed. A report & pictures can be found here: thewargamesroom.wordpress.com/2026/01/25/h... #NapoleonicNaval #NavalWargaming
Everything is "needed" instantly these days & internet ordering is no exception. Yet, I recently placed an order with #Navwar via snail mail. My order was posted from New Zealand on the 10th of December. It arrived today exactly one month later. Outstanding service by all - especially Navwar!
