Great free lunchtime al fresco opera today, Madam Butterfly, compliments of Dublin City Council.
And lest anyone is still struggling to distinguish a “war” from a “genocide”, this should help.
There’s “off the charts” and there’s France’s absolutely bonkers June & July 2026 temperatures (see black line below). Bad things are happening. Fast.
It’s 49C in Basra, Iraq today. Coolest it will get overnight is 36C. Temperatures will top 50C next week. #Climate breakdown is already well underway. Furnace-like conditions like this will continue to spread, year after year.
Worrying times for oil giant Shell as it racks up record multibillion dollar revenues profiteering off the deliberate, intentional but highly lucrative destruction of our one and only biosphere.
For those clinging desperately to phrases like: “it’s all caused by arsonists”, well it looks like the arsonists have really, really upped their game lately. #wildfires
It’s exhausting. For years, decades, right wing media have lied and told us #climate breakdown was just woke nonsense. Now, it’s whoopsies, yes it’s real, but relax everyone & enjoy our new “Mediterranean” climate as Europe goes up in flames around us.
“Many of our Irish politicians remain convinced that the #climate crisis is not coming for us. I beg to disagree” Another clip from @tonightvmtv.bsky.social a short time ago.
“We have essentially entered a completely new climatic era”. Short clip from my contribution to the @tonightvmtv.bsky.social earlier this evening.
Enjoyed chatting with Mario Rosenstock earlier today for an upcoming podcast covering European #heatwave, the #climate emergency, AMOC slow-down, the rapid rise of #renewables – and more. Will post a link once it's online in the coming days.
Do not adjust your screens: Daily Telegraph, purveyor of hard-core #climate denial, has temporarily noticed reality. Don’t panic: normal service on behalf of its energy industry sponsors will be resumed shortly.
As the billionaire-controlled media undermine renewable energy at every turn, the world is literally going up in smoke around us. You can ‘risk blackouts’ or you can barrel ahead and lock in global #climate collapse. One or the other.
This week's Last Word on the environment with @mattcooperlastword.bsky.social coming up shortly. We'll discuss Andy Burnhan's green credentials, plus take a look at the rapid evolution of mass battery storage systems. I visited ESB's facility in Aghada, east Cork earlier this week to find out more.
There’s cryptic newspaper headlines, then there’s this, from today’s Examiner.
Great evening celebrating Bastille Day in the French embassy yesterday, good opportunity to catch up with lots of familiar faces. (shame about the football).
Ever get the feeling that we’re just exiting the Oops phase of #climate change?
Such a confusing time, trying to figure out whether this is as a result of corruption, rank stupidity, or in Kemi’s case, a generous dollop of both.
Lots of outdoor advertising to promote The Last Word with @mattcooperlastword.bsky.social visible from the Dart. Am en route to studio for this week’s Environment slot, returning after annual leave. Topics include IFAC #climate report, air-con usage across EU, Dutch #solar success - and more.
Enjoyed poking a few holes in the government’s plans to have a free-for-all when it comes to one-off rural housing on @tonightvmtv.bsky.social this evening.
Thoughts and prayers for Daily Telegraph readers: the paper that routinely tells them #climate change isn’t real or isn’t important now tells them this non-issue is going to wipe TRILLIONS off their pensions.
The top frame is from 2015, when French meteorologists did a “forecast” from a #climate heated August 2050 - a warning on what could possibly happen in 35 years time. Bottom frame: well, it’s happened in barely a decade, only it’s already *much* worse than predicted. It’s a runaway train.
You can have billionaires/trillionaires or you can have a liveable planet with a fair crack of humanity surviving the next few decades. You sure as hell can’t have both.
Sign of the (changing) times: just pulled into this “petrol” station in Belgium, only to find 50% of the bays are now supplying high-speed EV charging.
So many different philosophies around transport in & around Amsterdam. This snap captures three; cycling dominates the inner urban area, with electric mini-cars surprisingly popular too. Further out, it’s the usual mix of regular cars and panzers, like the one to the right here.
Lunchtime student rush hour in Waginengen University, Netherlands, today.
