My latest journal article on 'Twin Peaks': 'Twenty-Five Year Shrine: The Screen in Twin Peaks: The Return,' published in Volume 11, Issue 2 of Supernatural Studies: An Interdisciplinary Journal of Art, Media, and Culture. www.supernaturalstudies.com/previous-jou...
The Best Films of 2026 (So Far). I wrote about 'Shelter,' the exceptional Jason Statham movie that you should all watch right now. At maximum volume. spectrumculture.com/2026/07/05/t...
Here is an article I presented in Cannes at the 2024 conference 'Failure in Anglophone print and audiovisual culture,' finally published two years later. One of my favourite 'bad' movies, perhaps the best of the bunch. 'Beyond Failure in "After Last Season".' journals.openedition.org/erea/21908
The latest in the David Lynch series I'm editing: 'Time in Worlds Within Worlds Within Worlds: Experiencing Proper Time Via David Lynch’s Inland Empire' by Bastien Bussieres. camera-stylo.com.au/index.php/co...
I'll be speaking at this year's Children's Literature Association Conference, which begins tomorrow in Pittsburgh. I'm a part of the panel called 'WEAPONS: Violence, Moral Panics and Safety in Children’s Literature, Media and Cultures.' www.childlitassn.org/chla-2026-co...
Available next month. I contributed the closing chapter, 'Horrors of Digital Communication in Found-Footage Supernatural Films.'
'Virtuosity,' starring Denzel Washington and Russell Crowe, was unfairly maligned. Wacky in some ways, but it has plenty of ideas that resonate. Mid-'90s visual effects are pleasingly frozen in time.
TFW you know you and your sibling easily clear many/most of these songwriters.
On this, the anniversary of the premiere of 'Twin Peaks,' I'm happy to share Stephen Kurczy's wonderful and strange 'Trapped in Twin Peaks.' Kurczy contributed this to the Lynch series I'm editing at Caméra-Stylo, and it's well worth your time. camera-stylo.com.au/index.php/co...
A most curious filmography is coming together in this article I'm finishing. It would make an entertaining film festival, movie marathon, or what have you.
Not much to say about the movies getting awards, except that this one should probably receive more of them. Another brilliant film from a true master filmmaker, made more significant by the risks he takes to tell stories and the inevitable relevance of those stories and that risk.
Happy Lebowski Day, indeed. Here’s an article I wrote last year about this film and sleep/dreams in the Coen Bros.‘ works, also examining Jeff Bridges as a sleep guide. cinej.pitt.edu/ojs/cinej/ar...
It really was the AOTY last year. Now, they’re playing live, selling merch, and doing the band thing. I haven‘t seen potential like this since early Ovid’s Withering, and I’m hoping these guys are around much longer.
New 'Twin Peaks' book releases today. My chapter is on Christology, Christ figures, and Laura Palmer. So pleased to see this book in the world.
What's this? A book that combines my most enduring interests, features a David Foster Wallace reprint, and somehow has room for a chapter I wrote? I'll be so happy to see this published. Coming soon from Bloomsbury.
David Lynch fans, critics, and kindred artists: Please consider proposing a contribution in response to this call for the inaugural 'Auteur Series' feature of 'Caméra-stylo': call-for-papers.sas.upenn.edu/cfp/2025/09/...
