Watching air tankers dropping on the Plains fire in Carrizo Plain on @watchduty.org and @alertcalifornia.bsky.social
A favorite (but bitey) cat from the Frost & Fire Hotel in Hveragerði.
Love extinct megafauna; hate fascism logo/sticker from @antifascist_logo_archive on IG
I had to dig up this baby mastodon tooth I found at the tar tar site.
Another visit by a DC-9, followed about 20 minutes later by this big DC-10. An MD-87 and a couple of British Aerospace tankers have been through recently too. And the two little Air Tractors are still doing their loops between lake and fire. 🙏🙏🙏
Holy cow, some small Air Tractor tankers have joined the Scoopers (image from jetphotos).
Yikes, the amount of tanker aircraft assisting with the fire in Spokane is incredible - visible are 5 Canadair Scoopers and Super Scoopers, a Boeing 737, a Dehavilland tanker, at least three Sikorsky helicopters. There has also been a DC-10 tanker and now a DC-9 tanker. Just amazing coordination.
Fun krotovina this week. Krotovina are animal burrows (bioturbation) that have been infilled with sediment different in color or texture from sediment the burrows were originally excavated in. Here the infill appears to contains small clay rip-up clasts (in blue) and an occassional pebble (purple).
One of mine is probably the pterosaur tracks I found in the Sundance Fm. in Wyoming (now in NHMLA).
I didn't take any photos at the Pasadena march today, but here was my contribution to the party. It was an amazing crowd with so many creative, hilarious signs.
Here are a few recent ones. There's so much variety in the deformation. Let me look at older photos...
Some really sculptural shapes carved into the soft, and often wildly deformed and faulted Sisquoc.
A couple of weeks ago at Goleta during a minus tide. I've never seen such a large stretch the beach completely scoured of sand. It was wild seeing so much of the exposed wave-cut platform [composed of Sisquoc Fm. mudstone].
I still have the screen I used to print these in 2020. The times are pretty dark...
Spotted a sweet little (2-3mm long) double-terminated quartz crystal while sorting matrix for micros recently.
When will we learn that those who are insatiable, gluttonous, rapacious should never be allowed near power...
So when sh*t is on fire I build up new old bikes. This month it's a 1983-ish Diamond Back (in the old days it was two words) Mean Streak. Frame via local ebay seller, most parts + wheels from a donor bike, new Stridsland chainring and Nitto handlebar. Frame is Champion plain gauge...but those lugs!
I'm a little late to this Flock camera website... JFC, the number of these license plate reader cameras is outrageous 🤬
