Perpetually exhausted, dad, husband, tech. Doesn't write as much as he should. (he/him)
A9 is now A10 and we've had awesome birthday fun - it was lovely to see so many guests even if I was on grilling duties and didn't get to socialise too much. Plus, we've reached MNOP in the annual birthday compilation cd that started with A's Birthday Compact Disc forever ago.
Look what just arrived! John @wiswell.bsky.social's new book. It's a beautiful thing!
A drew this very flattering portrait of me and I can't stop cracking up. Plus, her friend wrote a list of terrific fake facts about Australia for her, featuring drop bears and it being illegal to wear shoes in shops...
If I try the "bottle of cold water" trick it might be gloriously effective but would only last until the whole edifice came crashing down on my head.
We met up for dinner with a good friend. We got to see my daughter's ukulele club perform bookends to their school singing concert - that was good fun. And, my sister sent her this funky (and effective) neck-fan - I was expecting it to be more like Bob Dylan's harmonica holder.
Two disturbing sights on my last minute Tesco trip this evening. All out of my wife's favourite crisps. And, brand-new flag, accompanying the replacement football versions of the Saint George's flags infesting the area.
I visited my folks last weekend - both lovely and sad to see them (Mum's in an assessment home at the moment). At lunch time today, I got the bindweed from next door cleared from our garden border. And, Mr Skull enjoyed wearing my and A9's new(ish) sun hats.
Thank you. Day very much brightened! Have a bumble bee on an Astrantia.
A crop of a picture I took years ago as part of a black-and-white photo challenge.
Please excuse the multi-posting, it's been one of those weeks. I discovered that a big Dairy Milk wrapper is almost exactly square!
Oh, and this bad boy in the spare, spare room meant I had my first non-melting night's sleep of the week.
A warning from happier times (four years ago) in @scarfolk.bsky.social.
Smile-related good news: fledgling starlings! Haven't seen starlings in the garden for ages and had a cloud of them yesterday. Health-related good news: I finally have an appointment with the Chronic Fatigue Service.
It's a very odd sensation but I'm certain that one of the ways Twinkle shows affection is grooming the back of my head (either that or she doesn't rate my barnet).
Had an eye test - and I don't need new glasses. I survived shoe shopping for A9, who now has massive, size four feet! She helped prep rooms for guests. We had fun with guests.
Happy birthday. Twinkle seems to have identified with my wife's cat cushion. Not quite inseparable but she'll happily snuggle it whilst catnapping.
Seeing friends at the weekend. Helping Dad with some house clearance. Having fun with A9. Sending someone a cool present. And next door's wild flower patch is bearing some very pretty flowers.
Here's a batch of her efforts. And, we went for a lovely walk as a family and this tree looked like its leaves were on fire.
Mostly the Phoenix Fest (online edition) - A9 loved it so much and has decided that she currently wants to write down the comic by the time she's nineteen. Here she is, drawing along to @jamiesmart.bsky.social's session.
One of my former young people, @tjcarlisle.bsky.social, has written a couple. I really liked Blight (2023) - www.fantasticfiction.com/c/tom-carlis... - gothic, folky horror set ~150years ago.
